Cinematic Titanic just sent out a big update and here’s the skinny.
Their first DVD featuring a live performance–featuring the movie “East Meets Watts”–will be available starting Wednesday, Dec. 16.
They’ve also posted a five-minute preview:
Tour news:
Feb. 2–Apparently they will be doing a show at SketchFest in San Francisco. Official announcements to come.
Feb 19–Two shows at the Royal Oak Music Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan. (Tickets go on sale Friday.)
Feb. 20–As previously announced two shows at Milwaukee’s at the Turner Hall Ballroom. Tickets are pre-selling now (password: MST3K) and officially go on sale Friday.
April 16–At the McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ.
April 17–Cinematic Titanic hits Broadway at the Nokia Theater Times Square.
When are they coming to New York? I mean, seriously!
Baltimore/DC area!
Can somebody ask them when they’re going to guest on Rifftrax? Especially Trace.
Pardon my french, but HELL YEAH!
I’ll second the request for Washington, DC, which the Titans seem to be avoiding. In fact, I bet it’s the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. they’ve never done a show at. Come on, guys, it’s not that bad — you don’t have to actually meet any politicians!
I can empahise with everyone begging for their own cities. Milwaukee is the first new city since???? Early this year I think. The second part of this year they just repeated prior visited cities.
As for me, it’s about time they did WI as this state is Joel’s birthplace.
Finally my hometown!
Hooray! Yeah, I agree, finally back in Joel’s home state! And the state where several other MST regulars went to college! And where I live!
How about Michigan? Flint, East Lansing, Ann Arbor? We need a CT stimulus levity package.
Don’t get too worked up about CT not hitting DC or Manhattan yet, folks. Milwaukee can be given a pass given it’s home turf for Joel. (It ain’t Madison, but it’s close enough.) I’ve already seen them three times in Chicago. I’d almost think that would be enough to satisfy anyone, except that “East Meets Watts” was soooo good!
Yes, New York! How can you do a national tour and skip the largest city in the country!
Hmm… seems someone(s) missed the memo that they go *where they’re invited*… :???:
Does anyone know if they’re coming to NJ anytime soon? I hate it that they only coming to Philadelphia. I don’t live near there and would rather seem them in AC than having to drive for an hour or so.
I need to get someone in Indianapolis to invite the Titans…driving up to Chicago for a show is fun and all, but kind of a pain.
Have fun Milwaukee folks!
Well, I traveled to Minneapolis and Chicago to see them, I guess I have to see them when they come to the city I live in.
Well, I didn’t see that memo, but I have posted requests for DC. I’ve even pleaded directly to Katy Beaulieu, Cinematic Titanic Fulfillment Coordinator. I assume she has a pretty good pipeline to at least one of the Titans.
But I guess I might get more traction if I could scout a venue and then use my long-rusted sales skills to convince them to invite the Titans instead. I’m not sure I’m up to this yet, but one day…
CT does have a booking agent listed on their contact page. You might try making your requests to them.
This will be on Joel’s 50th birthday.
Anyone know which movie(s) they will be doing? The ticket info mentions the cost being $24 for a single show, but $40 for a 2-show pass. Since it’s only the one night, why would someone do BOTH shows, unless they were going to do different movies at each show?
Holy… Joel’s gonna be 50??
Does anybody have the necessary pre-sale code? Apparently one had to join the Pabst Theater mailing list. Well I just did that but the code for this event was one of the ones included in the “welcome email.”
Okay all I managed to get the pre-sale code using the guess method. It is mst3k. However it turns out the tickets are only general admision. So unless there is any danger of selling out (and I don’t know the venue so I don’t know if this is a possibility or not) buying early doesn’t seem to be a huge priority.
Can Milwaukee be found in America?
They’ve added a number of dates at the site:
San Francisco (Sketchfest) February 2
Royal Oak, MI February 19
Milwaukee, WI February 20 (still)
Princeton, NJ April 16 (Woo)
New York City, NY April 17 (and hoo!)
I’m suddenly glad I decided to go to school in Milwaukee, haha.
All of the talk seems to be about the live dates so far, but I’m really excited about a new dvd release. I was a little wary of it being the capture of a live performance (I like the outlines, dammit!) but after watching the preview I think it’s really going to work and I can’t wait to watch it.
The Titans Take Manhattan! Cue huge Muppety production number and count me in!! Woooo!!!
Oh, and the live DVD looks awesome! Will not wait ’til Christmas to open.
OMG- a show in Michigan- Royal Oak is a great town too- they have great brew pubs and places to eat.
I have seen Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello, Jeff Beck and many others there as well. Great choice for the Titans.
I liked the preview and will buy the download(burn the DVD myself)…but I really wish there was more interaction between the cast. One of the things I loved about MST3K was the interaction between Joel/Mike and the bots and the way they could ‘rib’ each other. I think CT should try something similar.
Example:
Trace:”Joel this movie is really awful….Why did you choose it?!”
Joel:”Don’t look at me, Frank is the one who scheduled it”
Trace:”FRANK!!!!”
Frank:”Hey! I love this movie! It helped me through my long hospital stay. I challenge you to find a better movie!”
Josh:”Long hospital stay!? For what? Temporary blindness?!”
I don’t know…something like that(but better written and funny)….5 comedians should be able to interact on stage?
Too bad they haven’t been able to get back to Austin (one date).
I have enough bad kung fu flicks already.
@Ryan, I know MJ did the X-files and would love to hear a RT by Trace, Mike and Kevin.
I’d like more info on the DVD. Where and when was this recorded? Will the preshow stuff be on as well? And what about Scarecrow’s brain?
I’ll second a baltimore dc area show.
I think this dvd looks fantastic. I hope the folks who complained about it being “live” like it too!
Feel better about the new live DVD now that i’ve seen the preview. I see its 16.9, I hope the DVD is animorphic (sp?)
I can live with this. You can hear the jokes and not so much the audience.Different, but good. And it’ll look so much better on my 42 inch screen, too!
Hard to believe this will be the first new CT release I’ll see in nearly a year (I know Blood of the Vampire came out in March, but I saw it live last October).
Judging by the preview, they did this DVD right. (mixing the audience out and the jokes up) This may open some doors for them to do the occasional “live” DVD, which would mean more frequent releases.
Are the Times Square tickets on sale yet?
How about now?
Now?
Is it 11:30 yet?
Perfect! Having seen them live at the Lakeshore Theater in Chicago, I can say unequivocally that their “act” works better before a studio audience (almost said “live audience”, as opposed to dead?). It kind of helps to hear other people laughing, but not in a laugh track type of way.
One other thing: can I assume this DVD is in wide screen format, to accommodate the live performers at the edge of the screen?
Randy
Just when I said to myself that I wouldn’t spend anymore money this month, it’s time for a new CT DVD.
East Meets Watts is a nice change from the horror movies.
The audience is way to audible for me. The Picture in picture for the movie is ok but I really don’t want to hear the audience.
This is excellent.
I’m stoked about the dvd. They need to make more. More!
I prefer watching in the comfort of my home. I did the show and concert stuff all through my teens, 20’s & 30’s, and now in my early 40’s I like to just kick back and let them come to me.
As much as I love the Film Crew guys, I have to award the best riff writing right now to CT. I think Bill, Mike & Kevin need some help with their riff writing. Such as Mike Dodge or other funny writers. They need some added perspectives because their riff writing is getting kind of stale.
With the 5 CT-ers, you get that added perspective that the Film Crew currently seems to lack, and that’s why MST3K is still way better than the two factions, but CT has the edge right now.
What’s that? Speak up Joel! I can’t hear you! Hey audience! Can you tone it down a little? If I wanted a laugh track I’d watch Eight Is Enough.
I’ve picked up all previous CT DVDs, but I’ll be skipping this one. I’m just not a fan of live material of any type.
And they don’t look at the screen when they riff? It looks like they’re all while a movie is going on in the background. That is weird.
ugh – definately not. The whole thing just looks too surreal. Also, I don’t if I’ve been watching too many Rifftrax, but I really don’t find CT very funny anymore.
I’m not digging CT’s stuff, yet. The movies have been too morose. I bought the first two DVDs, but I missed Kevin Murphy.
Looks like December 16th will be a great day for MSTies. You can order the new CT DVD, then go to a theater, if there’s one near you, to see the Rifftrax Christmas show.
(Looks like no one in my family is getting presents this year).
Sorry guys, I’m all tapped out. Don’t know where all the money went.
Once again, the people of Denver would like to tell CT to piss off. Next please start going someplace new for a change instead of the same places for 3 years.
2 years*
@pablum…Who cares if they’re not looking at the screen when they riff? Aren’t we suppose to be watching the movie, like we did with MST3K?? Or did we need to watch the silhouettes?? Just asking.
@Luke Forrester..I was wondering, has Denver ever invited CT to perform there? Maybe if the fans there were to request CT,then they could get them.Just a thought..
