As someone who is a fan of the movie (own the DVD, the recent 2-disc score release, and the Marvel comic), I thought it was hysterical. The goofy bits were properly riffed. It’s about what I expected.
Would happily own it, should Sony eventually play ball and allow a VOD release (for this and the other Sony/Columbia titles they’ve riffed).
Cinemark Tinseltown in Rochester, NY. Solid crowd, had a brief signal loss near the end but it sounds like it was a Nashville issue, not us.
Hopefully there’s a rebroadcast of something for the holidays.
I saw it at my usual RT venue, the Regal Commerce multiplex on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick, NJ. And, once again, the manager had to be reminded about the pre-show slides.
This one turned out fine. The movie itself was enjoyable, with some great cinematography, and there was more than enough riffable material. The biggest laughs were probably Mike’s comment re: yet another cave scene, and Bill’s latest Golden Corral slogan. One missed opportunity was when Freddie Jones’ character, talking about the main villain, says, “No one has seen him and lived.” The guys should’ve immediately gone into “Guy from Harlem” mode. (“He has big muscles, and he wears bands on his muscles. But nobody ever sees him!”) I was surprised that, given Liam Neeson’s appearance, that they only made one “Star Wars” joke. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a slam on much-abused Jake Lloyd, and got more groans than laughs.
All in all, it was a really good show. I do have a question: is there any word on them running an encore of a previous show later this year? They usually show one in the fall.
No word on any rebroadcast before the movie, sadly.

Long story short- there was no theater in Flint, MI showing Rifftrax live for the first time ever. Considering the last few shows I have attended in Flint (what with 15-20 in attendance) I guess I understand. I headed north to Saginaw tonight which WAS showing Rifftrax live. Saginaw, like Flint has a recently closed Toys R US. What Saginaw had that Flint didn’t was a FULL Theater. It was a blast. Whoever the Woman was 3 rows behind me who never stopped laughing- Thank you. It was infectious.
Bill, Kevin and Mike met the challenge. Thanks for a Five star night of entertainment.
As a near life-long DC metro/NoVA resident, I maybe laughed a little too loud at the Marion Barry er, um, crack…
My neighborhood has lost ten movie theaters in fifteen years.
Hence, there are no theaters near me that have Rifftrax Live anymore.
The venue that used to host them was in walking distance.
Now, it’s a storage facility.
Things like this happen when Republicans get elected.
Hope everyone who got to see “Krull” tonight had a good time.

This may not have been the best live show, but even second best is still a lot of fun. Plenty of laughs and everybody seemed to having a good time. A little bummed that this is it for the year, but God knows we’ll have plenty to tide us over until next time. See it on Saturday if you missed it tonight.

Enjoyed this one very much. Took me a moment to recognize Ergo from Willy Wonka. I sort of expected some riff on that, especially when there was another Wonka riff late in the show.

i saw it in o’fallon, il theater now called marcus theaters, and it just recently got rifftrax. there was allot more people there than space mutiny. we didn’t get a slide show like space mutiny. ours started right before they started the movie. it was really funny, and everyone was laughing and having a good time. i had heard of krull but never saw it. the movie was bad quite bad. To me it was like cave dwellars with a big budget.
Saw it at the Palace Cinema in lovely Sun Prairie, WI with my wife. Rather full theater which was nice. The pizza we ordered for the show was quite good. I navigated the beverage machine better than I thought I would. No Sno-Caps were available which was the only disappointing area from the vending. My wife heard someone with John Carpenter’s Halloween theme as their ringtone, which unnerved her in the bathroom. As I didn’t use the ladies’ restroom, I cannot attest to how I would have reacted under the same circumstances.
I had never seen Krull before even though I had witnessed plenty of other fantasy epics during my two score. Wow. Just wow. This flick presented some prime fodder for Rifftrax and I was heavily entertained. I think it was wonderful that gliding through the runtime without explaining much or having memorable characters was a bold choice for the filmmakers. The crowd was nice and there was a guy behind me on the left who hooted with the best of them. Very fun show!
Parking lot escape was smooth and civil.

First time at my new local theater (Menomonee Falls, WI). Very solid turn out. Could have done without the older lady absolutely cackling and clapping at nearly every single riff, but it wasn’t overly distracting since most riffs landed and had everyone laughing.
I’m a fan of this movie, and yes it’s because I saw it a LOT as a child (neighbors had HBO and it was on all the time). As an adult I look at it and can see all the amazing potential and cool ideas the story actually has (fire mares are a really cool fantasy idea) as well as really loving all he production design. Also I enjoy encapsulating the end of this movie as a Simpson’s reference: The secret ingredient is love.
And I really enjoyed the Marion Barry joke, mostly because there was a very confused silence in my theater as we all tried to puzzle it out, where in I accidentally just let out a loud “Oh, God dammit” when I pieced it together.
I watched the broadcast at the Tulsa Cinemark.
The only issue occurred toward the end when the signal broke up briefly, but it doesn’t appear that we missed much.
The riffing exceeded my high expectations because “Krull” is one of those guilty pleasures I saw when it first came out and subsequently buying it on DVD. First, I liked the way Mike, Kevin, and Bill dove right into the movie and it wasn’t long before we got a gut-busting riff from Kevin who had a particular name for a mountain formation that cannot be repeated in mixed company, but it had everyone on the floor.
Too many great riffs to remember and while there may have been a missed opportunity or two, it seemed that the Rifftrax guys were in top form.
I hope they have something for Halloween or Christmas, but if “Krull” is the movie that ends the year for Rifftrax Live, then it ended beautifully.
I am contemplating staying away from the comment section if the politics continue. This was one of my last bastions of shielding from the sticky mess. Please guys, I implore you. It doesn’t belong here.

A pretty full theater at the Century Cinema in Mountain View, CA. Great crowd. I’d never seen Krull before, and it was… certainly a movie. Of that much I am reasonably certain. We had the signal break up near the end, right around the point where the kid and Designated Comic Relief were getting stuck in the caverns of the Black Fortress. One moment they were ducking fire from one of the bad guys, then the signal broke, and when we came back a tiger was mauling said bad guy. I’m sure the scene made just as much sense normally. It took me until later scenes in the movie to piece together that Designated Comic Relief probably turned himself into the tiger? Does that sound right?
And… Krull was… um… the blind guy? Or the kid? Did the opening narration cover that? I forgot.
Mike, Kevin, and Bill knocked this one out of the park, I say. Shame it’s not going to VOD.
AMC Livonia’s theater was about half full. The biggest laughs might have been for “Suck it, hay-wagon!”, and the follow-up riffs.
IDR the last live show with no short, or one with this many flubbed riffs. Also, the “So, he’s Krull?” running joke kind of fell flat since the intro narration says it’s the name of their planet. But that sort of kept things from getting too mean, so their riffing was at the right level for a movie I actually like.
The glitches near the the end were unfortunate, but thankfully only cost us a few jokes right around the tiger transformation. Won’t be able to make the rerun, so I too hope this gets a VOD release soon.

As someone who watched the film at my usual Rifftrax Live theater in Bowie, MD, I’m surprised that only me and one other person were laughing at that joke.
I love Krull and have the Blu-Ray of it, actually, so when I got word of the kickstarter for it, I immediately sent them money for it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it last night.
It should get a “riffs only” release according to the Kickstarter rewards. We had a signal issue here in central Illinois as well and in the original, he does indeed transform into a Tiger. Krull is the name of the planet according to the narration.
It was good, but the cinemark in Albuquerque had signal or some recording issue so we lost about 45 minutes maybe 30. They gave us rain checks to make up for it.
Having just moved to the Bay Area after living in Chicago for 50 years, I was surprised at the huge laugh that got out here.
Saw it with a big crowd who came to laugh (special thanks to the septuagenarian woman behind me with the infectious laugh). One of their best live efforts, I thought. With every big laugh, I thought to myself how sad it was that we wouldn’t be getting a VOD later.

Mike, Kevin & Bill were great as usual, had tech difficulties towards the end as well, as most have stated.
Boy the movie itself tho, gawd it’s a rough one, thanks to the riffs to pull me through it. Krull is deffently one movie I can’t watch un-riffed!!!
The number of movie screens in the U.S. has doubled in the last twenty years, from 20,595 (1987) to 40,313 (2018). The number of drive-ins declined from 2054 to 524. Many smaller theaters have closed because digital conversion and the end of conventional movie projection has been too costly. Why make an inane and factually incorrect political statement, in this citadel of non-political ranting?
Saw it in one of the three Pittsburgh locales. Theater was… 2/3rd full? Pretty good turnout especially considering they’ve gone to 3 theaters around here. Riff was very good, but you just can’t beat even goofier movies like “The Room” and “Ice Cream Bunny”. The movie was the kind that was juuuust good enough that you sort of get caught up in it. Though I’ll be damned if I knew what the hell was going on in it. Biggest laugh was probably the “Ditka, sausage, Ditka” line when the be-mustached Robbie Coltrane was on-screen just staring

I apologized for the political mention. I was upset last night about missing another Rifftrax Live in a theater.
Many people of both party lines here blame the former mayor for valuing pricey high rises over movie theaters and businesses. It even made the local paper a few years ago.
A few of the movie theaters that closed were fairly large. Some closed before digital projection was even an idea.
I’m truly sorry for the tumult I caused.
I’ll leave here if it brings peace and unity back to this board.

Great movie, great rifftrax. I took a small party of friends and all enjoyed it. The show had the lowest turnout yet, sadly.

As self-proclaimed academician on the 80’s Fantasy Summer-of-Love, I’ll concede that while this was one of the best looking fantasy epics of the 80’s–well behind Excalibur or Neverending Story, and edging out third place over Dragonslayer, which is itself not without riffable moments–I’d agree with the one critic who complained “We never get to meet the characters, we only get to hear their Dying Words.”
Sort of like in Infinity War, only we already knew those characters.

In the original movie, Charlie’s Schoolteacher the Great tries to turn other people into animals, and only succeeds in turning himself into them…The strategic advantage of which never remotely occurs to him until the very climax of the movie. And that’s just from memory, I don’t have to look up my Blu-ray.
And yes, the planet of Krull is identified in the opening narration, which did rather spoil RT’s standard default safety-net “Where’s all the cool stuff from the TITLE?” jokes, eg. finding excuses to repeat the title over and over for its own humor value.
(Hey, y’know, just sayin’, (quote-fingers)“Krull”…And not the movie with the TV-Hercules guy, either.)
Last night at the Cinemark in Plano was a full house, something I have not see in a while.
I really had no preconceived notions for the movie at all. I had seen Krull way back in 1983, and my sister and I even bought the paperback novel. I have the game for my Atari 2600 that I bought on ebay a few years back. But I remembered nothing about the movie at all from seeing it as a 13 year old, other than I thought the princess was really attractive back then. I caught a snippet of Krull on cable about 15 years ago and was amused that once of Charlie Bucket’s teachers was one of the members of the quest, but it made no other impression on me.
The evening was fun, but my wife and I nodded off a few times. I attribute that to a stressful week of work and little sleep more than anything. I love Rifftrax and will continue to see the live shows — I am hoping to actually make it to see the guys in person some day (I have already seen both Cinematic Titanic and The Mads Are Back twice, and have tickets to see both shows of MST3K live in November in Dallas). But the last few shows have been somewhat flat for me. The second helping of Space Mutiny in June had its moments, but it did not have me laughing like the MST3K version did. The Dr. Who show last year and last night’s Krull outing were pleasant enough, but not in the top 5 Rifftrax live shows for me. But I’ll take a night with Mike, Kevin, and Bill anytime, anywhere, and I am glad everyone else seemed to like the show more than me. I remember the years when we had no MST3K other than tape circulation and DAP and occasional Rhino releases, so any new material from any of the cast is welcome. Please keep these coming!
Krull is a pretty big thing with my family as my youngest sister is named Lyssa. I thought there were less jokes than usual but the ones they had were really good and everyone was laughing out loud.
I heard about this, and a local (well hour-away local) place had it, bought tickets…and I just couldn’t. Krull gets a pass in the way Deathstalker, Sword and the Sorcerer, and Wizards of the Lost Kingdom don’t. Better plot, better acting, and the sfx are above cheepnis. Went home and watched the summer shorts beach party instead XD
I came down with a bad case of the flu on Tuesday and was too sick to go out Thursday night. So the Saturday showing was the first chance I had to see it. I’m glad I did. I’d never heard of Krull before, but it seemed to work well for riffing. It was mildly interesting, the hero was easy on the eyes even with that beard (at least it looked better than that constant 3-day beard stubble that’s so popular these days), but it had plenty of goofy moments to riff on. Usually I don’t go for the fantasy genre, but this was one I enjoyed.

First one I had to give a miss to; on vacation and the nearest theater in Vermont was over two hours away. I thought I’d hit the Tuesday encore when I got back… only to see the mystifying change to Saturday. Guess falling prey to habits is a bad thing :) Hope it was a hoot, as Krull is still one of my favorite films that I will defend to the death

Like it was discussed here when they first announced it, when we get iconic Big-80’s movies up for Rifftrax, fodder-shmodder, we’re in for one Millennial-size heaping double-quart container of Cole slaw from the younger, cineplex-raised writers.
It really emphasizes the “M&tB Hate Movies” quality of Rifftrax not to know a reasonably good/mediocre Big-80’s movie from an awful 00’s-10’s Michael Bay one, as the two are completely different species:
There wasn’t a bit of CGI in “Krull” because it hadn’t been invented yet–The moviemakers went through a lot of trouble to get real locations, build big cavernous sets (the 80’s were the days when Soundstages Ruled the Earth), design elaborate art direction, train burning Clydesdale horses (I remember the making-of documentary saying you just don’t ride Clydesdales) and even stop-motion the David Bowie glass-spider.
And yes that sounds like “We shouldn’t tease this movie, as a lot of people worked hard to make it!…(facetious Mike hip-snigger!)“, but what seems to bother us about 10’s blockbusters is how lazy, boardroom-concocted and by-the-numbers a Transformers sequel or “Crossover franchise-universe” entry comes off–for those who can actually physically tell the difference–when compared to a movie that a studio, director, or producer sent out on its own, hoping for that ideal niche audience.
In the old days, you wanted an audience, you WORKED your stinkin’ @$$ off for one, and even if you didn’t, that could be part of its charm too.
In case you ever wondered, getting a “real” movie for your five bucks (in 1983 dollars) was one of those reasons that “80’s Movies Were Better”, that remake producers keep trying to tap into, and never quite reach.

I loved it… laughed a lot. One of the few I had seen a few times before.
I saw this Thursday, though not at the usual location. The only place nearby showing it was a different theater maybe 5 miles away from the usual location. There were maybe 15 people, that seems to be more typical/average. I first saw the movie on dvd years ago, so I had an idea of what to expect. It was mostly enjoyable, though we had a brief technical problem, I overheard someone say signal loss and could be the same problem a few others have mentioned. I hope they do more fantasy movies, those can be good but there’s usually good riffing material.
I didn’t take the above remark remotely seriously and IMHO it’s really quite weird that JediPeaceFrog did (and reacted so disproportionately). Go figure.

Well, I’m sure, the 80’s were FULL of them for Cole to decade-snicker at…
(The one “secret formula” ingredient of 80’s fantasy films is that most of them were made completely without irony, because there was too much budget to risk and backpedaling/self-goofing irony wasn’t good box office. As a result, they could be very good, like Krull or Thunderdome, or very bad, like Solarbabies or Dune, but at least they were honest about it.
And in the end, integrity wins out: There is almost no 80’s Summer-of-Love sci-fantasy film that doesn’t have some loyal cult following somewhere that will rush to its defense. No, seriously, go on Warner Archive’s Twitter account at the moment, and you will hear fans heap decade praise on Alexander Salkind’s “Supergirl”.)
No one was talking about YOU…Now go back to your Rifftrax plugs, they’ve got a few more leaflets to scatter in the street.
Calling someone–like Froggy, for instance–a “troll” after he was repeatedly Modded off the board for doing the exact same generic 90’s-Usenet off-topic button-pushing back during the Netflix discussions and being called out by other posters for it (no, really, why do we keep FORGETTING it’s that same guy?), however, is a little more within proper frames of accuracy and historical precedent.
As some here have said about other posters, it’s not just about you. ;)
It’s not fair or accurate to say such an approach is a Rifftrax invention. If you watch “Day the Earth Froze” from Joel’s era, the narrator plainly says what a sampo is, but, since the guys were busy riffing at that point, they used several jokes and one whole host segment to wonder just what a sampo is supposed to be. Plus, of course, there’s the constant refrain of “Manos, the Hands of Fate” during the drive to Valley Lodge. And those are just the ones I can remember offhand.
