“What callbacks to the original show would you like to see in the revival?”
I would suspect they are going to light on these, but a few would be fun. A well-placed “hi-keeba,” for example.
What do you think?

When appropriate a well placed “shaking the bushes, boss” or “I’d hate to shoot a butt like that” could never go far wrong.

Either Tor Johnson’s immortal “Time for go to bed” or the classic “Shut up, Iris”.

“It Stinks!” and “Watch out for snakes!”

Should one of the movies contain a flight sequence (or Crow forbid, a refueling sequence), a well-timed “Aerial Love Theme” from The Starfighters would be most appreciated.

Thanks for using my question!
Well, mentioning that Rocket #9 was still around showing things from outside the ship would be nice, along with the return of Magic Voice.
And, for longtime fans, they could have someone comment on a particularly evil thing done by the new Mads. And they could respond with a smile and a “Thank you!” And it could be followed with a few seconds of them both exchanging, “Does that sound familiar?” looks.

What else, but the immortal …
“Push the button, Frank.”

If a character in one of the movies is shown trying to break a door down, they should bring out the classic, “Ugh, it’s open!”

“Use plenty of lip and tongue action.”

How about Kinga seeing a bunch of Deep 13 uniforms from Clayton and TV’s Frank, and telling a couple of mole people named Gerry and Sylvia to dispose of them discreetly…but they wind up wearing them and winning a cosplay contest.
And she tries some deep hurting on the crew but it backfires.
And, of course, Torgo shows up (and it could be Mike as that guy)..or better yet, his theme music is heard and it’s someone’s ringtone.

Torgo and Ortego references would be cool.

Invention Exchange!!!
It’s a callback. A BIG callback! The IC was always Joel’s thing and now that he’s on board again, let’s do it!

He tampered in God’s domain.

When someone opens a door and looks in, a monster growl would be nice.

A skit featuring an updated play on the life of Peter Graves at the University of Minnesota would be nice, with an aside by Crow, “Somehow I can’t
help feeling partially responsible.”

Doing the “Minnesota nice” accent during winter or fishing scenes would make me happy. :)

“No Sampo eh? Bummer…” would be welcome, along with “You do it, I’m bitter.”

Remember how funny the “MITCHELL!” callback was in The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, especially because it was relatively unexpected and came out of nowhere? Something like that.
Also, some variation on “Dropo, you are the laziest man on Mars.”
This one is really reaching, but someone could break out into a rendition of the “Joey the Lemur” song, only to be met with disapproving glares from the other two riffers.
Invention Exchange-wise, maybe we’ll get an updated version of the Big Head so that Jonah can become the guy with the biiiiiig head.
More generally, I’d like to see some of the recurring jokes that were always fun when they appeared. As pointed out above, this would include the monster growl when someone looks through a door or the Minnesota Nice banter.
My favorite recurring riff that I’d like to see? “Well, sure, I can see why– THE HELL?!”

I don’t know about you guys, but if they suddenly started singing “THEY TRIIIED TO KILL ME WITH A FORKLIIIIFT!!!!”, I’d squeal with glee like a five year old girl meeting Elsa at Disney World.
Also, ANY reference to the Gamera theme would be amazing!

Evil Crow “Timmy” should work with the new Mads to provide plenty of DEEP HURTING, with lots of “I’m the god!” references.

I think there may be more of these than you suspect, Sampo, given the fan status of so many of those involved. I can see Jonah and/or Baron slipping in a few ad-libs in the theater segments, especially. But I’d like to see references to Crow’s screenwriting career continued – maybe he got a job writing for one of those stupid home video shows, or contributed on a really bad Eddie Murphy movie. As well as a few mentions of the sleepy-eyed guy who built us and the big dumb blonde guy from Wisconsin by the ‘bots.
The call back riff that would have me laughing with glee? “A hamburger sammich and some french-fried potatoes.”

That’s a great idea, but I don’t think anybody but Trace could get it just right, ya know. Maybe it was the boogers froze up in his nose from them Minnesota winters, eh?

Kenneth (#6) actually nailed the ones I definitely expect. Riffwise, I’d love to hear “I thought you were Dale.” It’s such a non sequitur based on a hazy memory.

Part of the joy for me of that particular joke IS the overuse.

“SLE-E-E-E-EP!!”

“McCLOUD!”
Also a “Skipper! Little Buddy!” wouldn’t be remiss, depending on the movie.
I know a lot of these are fan service, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a few do make it, considering how many actual jokes there are in any show (um, hundreds?). And it wouldn’t be too bad since the “new” crowd wouldn’t see them as self-serving and those of us oldsters will just smile and reminisce.

WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES!!!

Also I would really love Love LOVE for them to resurrect the “turn down your lights where applicable” title card from the early episodes. That image fills me with so much warmth, I don’t know why, but I would be ecstatic if they reintroduced it!

Personally, I always cracked up at the “I thought you were Dale!” joke. Yeah, I know that it’s a mistaken reference, but to hear it again in spite of (or, perhaps, *because* of?) that mistake would be awesome. It’s just such an inherently MST3K thing, and sometimes past mistakes can become poignantly heartwarming and, yes, funny. And heck, maybe Jonah can say the line and one of the robots can snappishly correct him, I dunno.

I always always laugh whenever a character opens any kind of door, hatch, lid, etc. and one of the guys says “Hey, I’m in here”.

My thoughts:
No verbal callbacks. Let’s upgrade to visual for the first season of the revival.
Hidden/placed somewhere in each episode, an authentic item/piece from the original SOL, or Gizmonic Institute, or the skits, or The Movie. Observant misties would be looking for these items similarly to Seinfeld fans watching for a Superman image to appear.
What do you think, Joel?

Hamdingers should make an appearance one way or another.

Any reference to Mr, B Natural would work, I think. She(He?) is a gem in the MST3K vault.

I will be very disappointed if they don’t work in at least ONE “Hart to Hart” reference.
“My boss, always doing crazy things like that. Well, back to the show.”

Blast Hardcheese, Punch Rockgroin, Slab Bulkhead, etc.

Sampo has an unspoken point about the new show being light on these references. Obviously, the new show must attract new, outside the MSTie world, viewers. For them these gems would be as foreign as somebody in a straw boater jumping out onto the screen and saying “Twenty-three skidoo. I’m the chicken inspector!”.
Having said that I, for one, would appreciate the continuity that some of these callbacks would represent, so keep ’em coming!
