There have been a few occasions where an episode’s stinger used a clip from the short instead of the feature. So what scene from a short not used in a stinger do you think is stinger-worthy? I’m going with, “Why don’t they look?” from Last Clear Chance in Radar Secret Service.
Oh definitely from “Here Comes the Circus”: doin’ it clown style.
Your pick?
Mr. B Natural –
“Knew your father, I did!”

I always like it in “Posture Pals” when they staighten poor Bombo and he screams out.

From Speech: Using Your Voice: “Use plenty of lip and tongue action.”

Doh! — I broke the rules (what were the odds?)! Still think it’s the logical alternate choice, though.

The dying fawn from Circus On Ice. Good wholesome fun for the kiddies.

From “Speech: Platform Posture & Appearance”: the knee test.

From X Marks the Spot, the Traffic Angel shows up and helps the ghost of Joe to his feet.
Or “What about Juvenile Delinquency” where the gang is about to attack the dad (where we see his face and it focuses out)
Or “Out of This World” where the female angel sticks her tongue out at the disguised devil. (It’s the Circus of the Devil)

Are we counting the serials? If so, from “Phantom Creeps, Chapter 2: Death Stalks the Highway”:
BELA LUGOSI: How fortunate! This simplifies everything!

Assignment: Venezuela. “The first thing that surprised me on that ride was the.?” Or The anteater with onion ring moment.
Progress Island U.S.A.: one of the acid trips montage, folk dancing, or UFO outside the Digital building.
Chicken of Tomorrow: “That’s what you think Big Boy.”
Uncle Jim’s Dairy farm: Farm boy waving as his city cousins arrive.
Once upon a Honeymoon: Wilbur sprinkling angel dusty.

Suddenly I want to use this Lugosi quote for, well, EVERYTHING.
OK, I thought stingers were always actual lines or shots from the movies and not riffs, so I’m going with that tradition. From the short Century 21 Calling, “Easy as pie, isn’t it?,” spoken by the perky telephone company representative.

From “General Hospital” (I believe it was part 3): dumping the cake in the trash.

Or this one: “Always be pleasing.”

When you consider how bland and forgettable Radar Secret Service was, it’s all the more surprising that they didn’t use, “Why don’t they look?” as the stinger for that episode.
A couple more suggestions. From A Young Man’s Fancy, the kid sister going on about feeling squishy. From Robot Rumpus, Gumbo discovering the benefits of having internal genitalia.

“Johnny at the Fair” is on my mind after this site pointed me to “Charlie at the Fair” (I’d heard about that follow-up piece a few years ago, living relatively close to the Canadian National Exhibition myself). Therefore, “What? A heelacopter airplane!” came readily to mind. (However, Turner Classic Movies did show a “Disneyland” episode from the 1950s where Walt Disney used that same pronunciation…)

From Design for Dreaming: Nuveena gets lifted by the masked man right before singing, “I want a Corvette!” It’s a great silly moment.
By the way, if Design for Dreaming were done today, I’m sure some mention would be made about Nuveena looking like Sheldon Cooper in drag. Now try getting THAT visual out of your head. ;)

Garson Keillor from “Speech: Using Your Voice”: Well, we, were, uh, well…
And A Case of Spring Fever (NO springs!) was shown with Squirm and they chose the movie stinger??
(These being odd out-of-context images, and not squishy high-school huh-huh things somebody said out of context.)

So what’s your point, EricJ? A simple minded reader like me might think you were finding fault with the previous entries. Couldn’t be, right?

Whoops. Just rewatched this and realized the quote should be:
“But golly, Mary! This stuff’s awful. I just don’t get most of it!”
Still works as a stinger, though.

Date With Your Family: The bit about Dad treating his daughter like she was his best girl. That line sounds so creepy and inappropriate. It didn’t help that when I first watched that episode I’d recently been dating and was still good friends with a woman whose father was, well, a very bad man in some of the worst ways. To quote Tom Servo, “The less said about this the better.”

Thinking in terms of images (a fine approach, by the way, although in articulating our preferences there is no need to make people feel bad if they happen to take a different approach), I keep coming back to the kid (in this case, the boy) in KEEPING CLEAN AND NEAT — the image of him starting to get up only to fall back into bed (with his hand over his face), which inspires the line, “what in the hell did I DO last night?”). That’s a funny, stinger-worthy, little moment.
And I would also like to see the return of the edit button!

I hope my post above didn’t come across as criticizing those who for good reason chose riffs as stingers. It’s ALL good!
Another vote for the return of the edit button if possible, because sometimez I cantt spel.

I think it was the Posture short that had the line (from the movie, not a riff):”Johnny exposed himself on stage, and Mary helped!” Amazes me that the line went by without any riff or sound.
