Still no Riding with Death? Stop teasing me, Shout

Finally, some more Roger Corman episodes.

“Joel, I’m scared.”
Excellent news! I realize that THE SHE CREATURE isn’t really a fan favourite, but I’m very fond of it. And two of the GREATEST shorts on one set (not to mention a B.I.G. episode along with two by Corman). What’s not to love?
Tickle me, Carlo Lombardi!

All four films come courtesy of the Arkoff AIP collection. I suspect an AIP related documentary.

Two of the best shorts ever, as #3 said. Still hoping for a Beverly Garland Tribute set.

How about a nice featurette about the lovely Susan Hart and what a swell, reasonable lady she is and just a subtle mention of the five MSTed movies she owns and how we would very much like to give her money for them, which is kinda sorta the point of holding a film’s licensing rights, isn’t it?

3 out of 4 good episodes. She Creature isn’t great, though.

Come for the shorts and “STAY!” for The Undead. I love this set!
Thank you to everyone at Shout! Factory for releasing these unreleased episodes.

This will be an interesting set for me because I haven’t seen three of the four episodes. I do have a fan copy of #319, mainly because there was a time (in the not-too-distant past) when that episode was considered to be among those that would be “impossible” to license. I should have known not to underestimate Shout Factory!
@#1: Yes! I’m eagerly awaiting “Riding With Death” also. They can release that one as a single, at the same price as a four-episode set and with no extra features, and I’d still buy it.

Don’t let King the Dog hear you say that.

the movie She Creature is nostalgic for me luckily. The rest of you should’ve been watching it with me at my grandma’s in 1975!

I think the big news here is Mr. B Natural, which if you didn’t pick up Volume 6 when it came out (as I didn’t) you probably missed out on. Good times, good times! I think I shall enjoy this one.

I hope the extras include a Tickle-me Carlo Lombardi doll.

Just found out these are all apparently Arkoff titles. Do they need to get out the Arkoff movies pretty fast, or are they really running low on other stuff to license?

Any set to me is a good set. For all of you wishing for “Riding with Death” (and I completely concur that a Shout! release would be fantastic) — see that link in the upper right corner here on Satellite News that says CHEESYFLIX ? Click it. Buy it. I love Cheesyflix.

I hope it’s true because waffles, waffles, waffles…oh, and STAAAY!!

MSTie (#16) — Agreed on Cheesyflix. It’s the only reason we have every episode in existence.

We’ll get our Riding With Death, don’t worry. We got our San Francisco International, so we’ll get our Riding With Death one day. I’m still holding my breath for Rocketship X-M and Stranded In Space, but all good things in due time. Another killer set, and I can understand putting other titles on hold to get these out first, because after all, it’s the freakin’ Arkoff titles! We never thought we’d get ’em! Viking Women (perfect timing as my Master Thesis about that episode I’ll discuss in a few weeks on the Episode Guide), Mr. B/Glen Manning, and the brilliant, underrated Undead. That, and my copy of She-Creature is for crap!
MST Hour Wraps for Viking Women and War Of The Colossal Beast will hopefully be included.
Another one knocked out of the park by Shout! Factory. Keep up the good work!

Nice to see one of the “Colossal Man” episodes released. Susan Hart must be having change of… well Hart.
Has the first one been released already? Or was the sequel just easier to get?

I always assumed that it was just easier to make sure that any titles from potentially tricky licensees were released ASAP. Imagine if they hadn’t released all the Gamera titles in one shot… there could still be titles unreleased.
Better to get the Arkoffs out officially before there’s a possibility Shout loses the rights.

Awesome! #806 is one of my all time favs and I can’t wait to see #319 and #317 for the first time! Thanks so much Shout!

My only issue is that right now my wife and I are “doing” season 8 and next week was going to be 806 (and then 808 a couple of weeks later). We try and do in order, so now I may have to have a “pause” (and perhaps do some CT and Rifftrax as a dance step in the intervening months — are we thinking these are perhaps October releases? Boy, that’s a lot of space for me to mark time)
I have ALL the episodes, and even those two in very good quality (taped myself off the HD Sci-Fi channel) but, as always, do prefer to have the officially released ones to watch (my edits are very, very good, since I was a professional editor, but still…).
The episodes from season 3 are great in terms of timing, though (won’t need those for a year or more).

30 more to go!
I’m betting Shout! will get another 20 done before hitting the legal wall.

Shout! Factory continues to surprise with another well balanced, 2 Joel/2 Mike set. If you look at what’s left to put out, you can see where Shout! has laid it out nicely to continue to provide diverse box sets of MST3K from Vol. 36 on on.
Speaking of Vol. 36, it looks like the inclusion of Teenage Caveman would be a given. Other than that, most of what’s left should be licensed already or is public domain. The real ones left to crack, from what I can gather, are Paramount and the Nicholson Estate. There could be a few other stragglers in the mix.
I’ve got an idea for a future bonus feature. Slates & Wraps. They could do a compilation of all the pre-show slates, as well as a compilation of all the MST Hour Wraps that were not included with their respective DVD releases. Unless, of course, Shout! already has other plans for those clips. And knowing Shout!, they always have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Just received Volume XXXIII from Shout! Factory.
Randomly picked the Earth Vs. The Spider disc. Plenty of lip and tongue action!

That’s true, although I was also thinking that the releases for films by MGM/Paramount/etc. have been slowing down in recent sets and there should be more of those to go. I would think those would also be a pretty big deal and they’d want to get all of those out quickly too.

Some good movies. Mr. B is always a fan fav.

Another great set from Shout! They continue to do an amazing job.
I’ll agree with most that The She Creature isn’t a strong episode. But, I love the other 3. And Mr. B. Natural is unquestionably my favorite all-time short.
Huzzah!

Great set! My 317 is pretty worn and 806 is one of my favorite early Sci-Fi episodes. Thanks again Shout! Why the early announcement? Also, does anyone know if you can order JUST the cardboard sleeve for the turkey day set?

Another great set for the early winter. Seems to me Shout! is boldly releasing the harder to get stuff, while, hanging on to what I think is low hanging fruit for later sets : 305, 403, 405, 416, 618.

Yeah, I got the shipping notice on Thursday night, it showed up at my door on Saturday morning. Fast service!
Watched Daddy-O and Agent for HARM last night. Good times.

True. It was noted somewhere (here? the discussion board?) that Shout tended to plan sets out well in advance. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re basically aware of what licenses they can keep in their back pocket, so the sets can keep coming. (Seven more, by my count, before you start getting into reissue territory.)
Legitimately surprised they didn’t announce another reissue at the panel as well.

Shout is rereleasing Vol. 1 in September.

Oh, I know. I’m just noting that we’re getting close to the point where ALL of the new releases are reissues of previous sets. If Shout works its sorcery at the current pace, the last new set will be in Marchish 2018.
Since they’d already announced Volume 1’s rerelease, was kinda hoping they’d say ‘yeah, Volume 2’s coming in the spring’ or something.

Shout! is the one vice I can really count on.
They keep releasing bad ass box sets in a timely fashion – like the clockwork guts of a fine Swiss! watch.
I’m so far behind in buying all the sets it’s pathetic.
Thank God I’m goal oriented. It’s only a matter of time.
Then I can start my own network on some deserted island and teach the villagers what’s what.
Good times.

31 to go.
Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster was never released to DVD.
31.
31.
31.
Why does that one get “special avoidance” treatment? Because some think they are convinced it will never be released? So it should not be counted?
The same can be said for all of Hart’s episodes, but people keep counting those as ones we are waiting to be released.
Exact same thing, status-wise, only slightly different though, because the odds are actually in FAVOR of Godzilla being released before Hart’s.
What am I missing here?
31. 31. 31. 31. 31.
And to the vast majority, the number is actually 32, due to the extremely limited shelf life Godzilla vs. Megalon.
And the number goes yet higher if one is creating a check off list of DVDs to buy and encounters the ones that are OOP by Rhino.
Mysties love to point out that Megalon was briefly in print, but they have no explanation for not listing the second Godzilla in their “those remaining list.”
Now someone will say, “we don’t list the second Godzilla, just like we don’t list the KTMA episodes in that number.”
(Facepalm.)
If someone has a logical explanation, I’d love to hear it.
If the NUMBER is supposed to reflect what the post KTMA period of episodes not ever making it to DVD, then the number is 31.
Oh God. I can already hear it. “The number reflects all episodes but the Godzillas and the KTMA.”

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl, but I have checked the number multiple times, and the final 30 include 213 Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but you might want to check the list below to see if you missed a different episode along the way.
201 Rocketship X-M
213 GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER
305 Stranded In Space
309 The Amazing Colossal Man
311 It Conquered The World
315 Teenage Caveman
403 City Limits
405 Being From Another Planet
416 Fire Maidens From Outer Space
418 Attack Of The The Eye Creatures
420 The Human Duplicators
524 12 To The Moon
601 Girls Town
602 Invasion USA
605 Colossus And The Headhunters
618 High School Big Shot
623 The Amazing Transparent Man
703 Deathstalker And The Warriors From Hell
704 The Incredible Melting Man

Actually, those 30 episodes DO include Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. You might need to recount.
As for Godzilla vs. Megalon, it might have been out for a very small window, but it was released at DVD level quality. Which means if you want it badly enough you can get a DVD quality version of it (there are many places on the internet where it can be found). Whereas most of the other unreleased episodes the best you can do is a VHS quality copy. It would of course be wonderful though if it was released again so that more people would have a chance to have a legal copy of the episode.

This means we should be getting at least 7 more possible 8 volumes max. I keep hoping they will do a set with more than 4 episodes just to shake things up a little bit.
Out of the last 30, I wonder how many of them we’ll be getting ! :)

Don’t know if it means anything, but five titles were recently released on iTunes. Haven’t seen them on DVD anywhere, but they are titles that were old Rhino DVDs (solo or part of a pack) and are now out of print.
202 – The Sidehackers (Vol 3)
207 – Wild Rebels (Vol 9)
209 – The Hellcats (Solo)
820 – Space Mutiny (Vol 4)
1003 – Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders (Vol 5)
They aren’t on Amazon Instant Video, just iTunes, at least for now. Don’t know if this means a rerelease on disc is upcoming, but maybe, just maybe.

The list and count is correct. I can personally vouch for that: Like many here, all the episodes not on that list, I have on DVD, except the four just announced.

Susan Hart does not own the rights to War of the Colossal Beast. She owns:
ATTACK OF THE THE EYE CREATURES
IT CONQUERED THE WORLD
I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF
TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000
THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN
The Samuel Arkoff estate owns the rights to WofCB and licensed it to Lionsgate along with the following:
Daddy-O
Earth vs. the Spider
Teenage Caveman
The Viking Women and the Sea Serpent
The Undead
The She Creature
By my count, all of these are now available on DVD except for Teenage Caveman. Based on what I’ve read, Lions Gate may also own the rights for City Limits and Girls Town (“may” being the operative word). I don’t know if Shout reached a deal on these too: Lionsgate is supposedly hard to deal with when it comes to licensing. So while I’m not sure if this deal on the Arkoff titles means that we will get whatever episodes Lionsgate owns, it certainly gives one hope.

Correction: As smarter people than me noticed, the copyright holder for Daddy-O and Earth vs. The Spider as listed on the new DVD set are “AMC Networks, Inc.”. So it looks like the Arkoff estate may no longer hold rights to those films.

Just noticed this: 2 sets of episodes that are 2 episodes apart. 317, 319 & 806, 808.

All I can say is… holy sh*t! I wouldn’t have forseen a whole set of Arkoff-stuff, but a few years ago I didn’t forsee a f*cking GAMERA set either! Shout Factory continues to be the #1 maker of awesomesauce in the world!!! :D
Now, if only I could afford to play catch-up with all of these wonderful sets they keep churning out!

I read over at the Shout! site that there are no current plans for reissuing Vol.2-12. I guess they’re going to see how well Vol. 1 sells.
