Only one I really like is SFI. Still will pick it up! Go Shout for cracking Sony!

#401 …alright, Crow’s “Killer Peck!” FUN episode.
I’ve already got quality dvd transfers of three of these–sans #520. A purchasing decision may be contingent on the amount of supplementary goodies.

Marvelous. San Francisco International is a hilarious episode, on my top 10.
Volume 32??! Wow! We’re cruising right along here! I’ve purchased every single release. And will continue to!

That’s a really good set, especially for the start of the year. Finally Space Travelers and Hercules, but even better is Radar Secret Service, but best of all is San Francisco International, my second favorite Mike episode! (the first being Village of the Giants) Made for tv hippy in full quality! I can’t wait!!!
another 2 Joel 2 Mike set, Shout! must know something the rest of us don’t… ;)

Can’t believe we’re getting Space Travelers! I honestly thought no one could ever get those rights. I think this is a solid set.
And count me among the people who have bought and own every set (and also the single Rhino discs). Even though I have them digitally I like to chip in to keep good releases coming out and Shout has gone above and beyond on extras.

HUZZAH!!!! Finally, 502-Hercules arrives! The single greatest 90 minutes of television ever! And it’s on a set of all Comedy Central eps. There’s not a clunker to be found. I think I just had an aneurysm!
Thanks, SHOUT! GREATEST BOX SET EVER!!!!
And, again I repeat…HUZZAH!!!!

No one’s gonna comment on this? Just checking.

Jason: yes, vhs-to-dvd transfers …if that’s what you’re inquiring about?

Glad to see Shout managed to strike a deal with Sony, from the looks of things. The rest of the episodes are great as well. Keep it up, Shout!

“Serum”, the new CD from Rush!
Great set, thanks Shout! I have almost all the box sets. I’m still kicking myself for pouting when Rhino started releasing sets of episodes that I had just bought on VHS (one per month @ $20, Columbia House). I boycotted a couple of those early sets. Now they are out of print and pretty expensive on ebay. Ya snooze, ya lose.

Hmm, none of these are all-time favorites but I remember liking San Francisco International.

Ah, San Francisco International. Written by two of Mission Impossible’s best writers — and it was still the most boring thing on television. How is that even possible? Well, it will be nice seeing this one again, along with Hercules (another miracle from Shout! – never expected that one to come out any time soon).

And another studio holdout topples. Hopefully Paramount will soon follow…
I guess we expect to see Teenage Crimewave and 12 to the Moon, then.

Wow!!! What awesome news!

Shout Factory, I love you!

I pre-ordered mine from Shout yesterday – this is a great set! San Francisco International is a top ten episode for sure!

Only two more season five episodes left to be released!

This is great news!! San Francisco International was one of the first episodes I had seen. Will be great to see it again! This also will be the first time I see Space Travelers and Radar Secret Service.

Finally, the glory of RADAR hits DVD!
Haven’t seen any of the other eps. Fully plan on picking up the set in March.

By the way, just one question:
I actually found this on the forrestcrow forums, and I thought I would ask this here, too.
What’s the deal with Rocketship X-M and Stranded in Space? Those are two episodes that actually have a good chance of being released that seem to never get its light of day. Anybody know what’s going on?

so what does that leave us with episodes needing to be clear? hope Shout! gets the Godzilla movies soon.

There are now 38 episodes that have never been officially released on DVD (37 never officially released on any form of media: The Amazing Colossal Man was released on VHS). The full list can be found at Travis’s list at the website linked. The only remaining rights holders that have more than two episodes are (other than Public Domain) The Samuel Arkoff Estate (7), The James Nicholson Estate/Susan Hart (4), Paramount (4), and MGM (4).

I never would have believed that Shout! could corral “Space Travelers,” but maybe I was just blinded by the star power in the movie. It’s amazing how with each set, Shout! seems capable of including at least one film that people didn’t think they could get.
And what’s more amazing is to think that, with 38 episodes remaining, this all could be wrapped up in as little as three years! Not that I’m going to hold my breath; it’s a little like a video game in which the early levels are relatively simple, with a little bit of difficulty at each stage, until you’ve reached the upper level and find yourself being faced down by Hart, Arkoff and Paramount. We can only hope that a little time might have softened previous attitudes, as well as years of records to prove that an appearance on an MST3K DVD package doesn’t hurt (and perhaps helps?) the ability to sell the movie itself.
Fingers crossed. This is another great collection, but, then, most of them are . . . Thanks again, Shout!

I always heard the main holdout (after Sandy Frank) was Susan Hart, who refuses to let go of these films. I am surprised that there is still a problem with the Arkoff estate, though – more money, more power, right? Arkoff (and by extension, Corman) should have welcomed the publicity. AIP, after all, embodied the principle that any publicity is good publicity (but it still won’t make the biker films any more interesting :-) )

Great news!
Now- can’t wait for the other two sets of 2015- and here are my dream sets:
City Limits
Being from Another Planet
Escape 2000
Riding with Death
Daddy-O
Fire Maidens from Outer Space
High School Big Shot
Deathstalker

Space Travelers is considered by some to be the best movie made that MST3K did. I don’t know about that, but it is fun seeing Joel and the bots riff on some top actors. I’ve always liked the ep, but have not seen it since it was on the air. That’s the headliner (and surprise) here. As for the other eps: I love all the Herc vehicles. Having trouble remembering Radar Secret Service at the moment, so looking forward to that one as well. Have only seen bits of SFI (noticed Pernell’s smugness), so likewise excited for that one. Is there a pattern forming? Thanks Shout!

“San Francisco International” – yes!!! Now all I need is “Riding With Death” and “Agent For HARM” and I’ll be truly happy. Insert Tab A into B movie.

Sooooo disappointed with this set.
Was hoping for a multi language close captioned set consisting of four different cuts of Manos : The Hands of Fate in Greek, French, isiZulu, Portuguese, and Chinese Mandarin along with appropriate linguistic notation and grammar refresher courses and some bonus trial lessons from Rosetta Stone.
(the Rosetta Stone bonus may be unrealistic, but one can dream)
Shout is keeping us in the dark and promoting cyclical language ignorance that borders on tyranny.
I will buy this set in March and immediately donate it to the Salvation Army. The next set better deliver!
Shout really dropped the ball this time. Way to go, overlords. :-(

note to Shout: To clarify, all four unique cuts of Manos in all five languages listed.
I suspect there are seven different versions of Manos, but four is pretty much established by internet rumor in severasl chatrooms, so four is the minimum.
(The ultimate director’s cut was interred with the director, so a court order will be required to exhume. Show us what you’re REALLY made of, Shout. Dazzle us.)

They got Marooned…I mean Space Travelers? Mind blown!

Herc Season 5 is one of my all-time favourites (“We’ve come to get our pet lion scruffy — OH MY GOD!”), and I have a weird affection for Radar Secret Service (“so how far did you get — did that leopard thing come off?”), which also includes one of THE great shorts (“Can I have your rooooom?”), so this is welcome news.
Thanks Shout! :)
Can’t wait for the Turkey Day Marathon!

Yes! I’m surprised to see the love for Radar Secret Service and San Francisco International Airport — I always thought everyone hated those episodes — but damned if I don’t love ’em too. Add the “classic” Hercules and Marooned and we have an excellent set. So happy!

@27 the reason you don’t remember Radar Secret Service is Hypno Helio Static Stasis!

Wow, Space Travelers (very underrated episode, impressed they got the rights) and SanFrancisco International, two of my favorites! Add in Hercules and radar Secret Service and this is one killer box set.

Two great ones, one really good one and one of my least favorite episodes.
614 – San Fran International is an absolute favorite of mine. Love any 70’s & 80’s TV Movies or Episodes slapped together to make a “movie”. “Oh, he’s a made-for-TV hippie.” I’ve been to the San Fran International Airport 4 times in my life and I get really excited everytime I’m there. It has been updated in a lot of ways–as you can imagine–but you can still make out some of the spots where they shot the movie.
520 – Radar Secret Service is another one of my favorites. I didn’t watch this one for a long time and then one day I threw it in and it became one of my favorites and not just because of the excellent short, Last Clear Chance–though that is one of my top 5 favorite shorts. I can’t pinpoint why I love this episode so much. Its slow paced much of the time, you can’t tell who’s who (as Mike & the Bots point out), but I love it. Maybe its that damn radar that gets to me… Radar has got me under its spell… If radar is wrong, then I don’t want to be right!
502 – Hercules Excellent Herc episode. When the Herc episodes aired, they were some of my favorites… then, for years I went through a faze where I didn’t really watch them much or at all… when I went back and revisited them, I began to appreciate them again and this is a really good one. The only one I’m still not super keen on is 410 – Hercules Against the Moon Men, cause the sand storm really is DEEP HURTING!!!
Finally, 401 – Space Travelers has always been one of my least favorite episodes since it originally aired in 1992… Dennis Miller scolded them about riffing this re-titled version of “Marooned”, and despite the fact he was probably coked up when he did it, I do agree with him. Not cause its a good movie, cause I believe nothing is un-riffable–but this is such a slow, downer of a movie… Its just so damn depressing and slow paced… I love every episode of MST3k, but this one rarely graces my DVD player on MST3k viewing night.
Overall, a pretty awesome set despite my dislike of 401… I still need a cleaner copy of it–my worry is will Shout deliver on that “cleaner” part… they’ve been “okay” lately, but I’m sure another “The Dead Talk Back” or “Beast of Yucca Flats” is still sitting on Jim Mallon’s shelf rotting away, waiting to be shipped out to the masses…

It’s strictly personal, but this is one set I feel “meh” about.
Part of that is because my wife and I are at the end of season 6 in our “cycle” of watching MST3K (we watch them in order rotation constantly, usually one or two a week but sometimes more depending on what else is available to watch). We’ve been through the cycle at least twice before, and each time the episodes get better and better quality (although, for the most part, I have *really* good DVDs of all episodes).
If we hadn’t just gotten through this far (and thus it will take a year or so to get back here) I suspect the only one I’d really jones for is “Hercules”… and even there I have reservations. On my own copy I edited it so that a line cut out that establishes him as a mortal is reinserted (and the “Careful what you wish for” echoing type line right afterwards). There is a LOT of editing for that version (understandable given MST3K time constraints as the original movie is 107 minutes so for skits and commercials they needed to excise at least 15-20 minutes) but that particular edit really irks me, as it sets up all that is to follow. I’m guessing I will need to perform similar surgery on the new version, and am not looking forward to it (it was tough because the release versions of “Hercules” all have different voice dubs on them, and finding a dub to match that particular pitch of Herc’s voice was impossible — I ended up adjusting it as much as I could in Sound Forge).
But, as I said, that’s just me. Overall it’s a fine job that Shout had done, as usual, and I’ll buy it as I buy all of them, even the ones that I already have excellent copies of (which is most).

Love Ralph Byrd’s lazy “Static” in “Radar Secret Service”, one of my favorite episodes. The others I remember being solid, but I haven’t seen them in a while (unlike “Radar”, which is in the regular rotation).

I never expected Space Travelers in a million years.. it was kind of a lackluster season premier episode. Plus so much of the movie is cut – I saw it in its entirety once and it was boring as hell.. The good news is that we will get the other Sony films – 12 to the Moon and Teenage Crime Wave I would assume
Radar Secret Service was a fun episode IMO.. same with Hercules, although its also cut quite a bit. Its not the worst Hercules film but the dubbing isnt that good. Its too bad they didnt do some of the Sons of Hercules films
San Francisco INTL – I really love the Erkel skits ! :)

Am I wrong, or is this the first set in a while to not feature any Sci-Fi era episodes? I really got into the show during that time, so I’ve been playing catch-up ever since with the CC shows. The only piece I’ve seen of these episodes is the short “Last Clear Chance” from Rhino’s Shorts collections. But if that short is any indication (“Stop the near-insanity!”) I’ll be keen to see all four of these, even Space Travellers!

Shout could have just had San Francisco International with 3 blank discs and I would’ve gladly paid for the set! But Gregory Peck, Steve Reeves, AND RADAR?
Thank you Shout Factory. For San Fran could you get an interview with Clu? Pleeeeease? Thank you!
Oh and in the fantastic chances you’re reading this, can you send a message over to Scream Factory and can they get a Maximum Overdrive and The Car double feature out please?

Meh……I hate to say it but I’m not that exited about this one. SFI is good but I’m not a big fan of the Herc movies. I haven’t seen Mar…I mean Space Travelers so at least I’m looking forward to that one. Just being honest. Sad to say I’m still waiting for #817 and #’s 806 and 807.

I really like San Francisco International, but those Hercules movies hurt like nothing else, because they’re so dull.
Radar Secret Service has Cold War-era goofiness, and probably the best safety short from the series, so that one’s good.
Space Travelers, well, I’ll have to put that in with Hercules. It’s dull, despite its cast.

Except for Radar Secret Service, I am not excited about this set at all. Space Travelers was perhaps the worst episode ever IMO, easily as boring as the season 1 eps everyone complains about.

Finally, I can enjoy “The answer, my friend, is blow it out your ass…” in full, digital glory!
