I’m still waiting for them to riff an actual big-time stinker like Die Another Day.

i knew it!!! this is great and all but lets hope they riff crappy movie next

I don’t know. The Dark Night isn’t the type of film that begs to be riffed. :???:

Hurrah! DRM-Free, this is excellent news.

Why do I keep thinking of Pearl’s LSD experiment (in Future War) when I look at Mike as the Joker?
Mike: Crow! You were hallucinating me as a clown.
Crow: And you’re not?

Hilarious cover. I may now actually watch this movie. :p

This is why I call it TrendTrax.
NO reason to make fun of this movie. Will they also make fun of Heath’s death…
Sad to see the trio sink to this type of level.
Flame away Rifftrax fans. I know you want to.

I think RT needs a reboot just as bad as the Batman franchise did.

I think we all knew this was coming. And they can make any movie funny, good or bad.
Plus, it’s a good reminder not to take things so damn seriously.

@ Trashman #1…
The Day After Tomorrow, I Am Legend, Spiderman 3, The Matrix Reloaded, Batman and Robin, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Independence Day, Terminator 3, and Transformers aren’t big enough stinkers for you?
Anyway I throw my hat in the ring of disapproval over them doing a Rifftrax for an amazing film like The Dark Knight. I don’t think that making Rifftrax for great films like this or Raiders of the Lost Ark shows that any movie can be riffed, it just shows that some people will laugh at anything. It’s pretty obvious that they realize that a billion people are going to buy this movie on DVD, and so that’s a lot of potential Rifftrax sales. There is absolutely no other logical incentive for them to mock a great movie like this. I still love Mike Bill and Kevin, and I buy every short that they make because those still have the spirit of MST3000, but Rifftrax of great movies like The Dark Knight lack that spirit, and miss the point of what riffing is all about, which is taking something seriously flawed and making it something wonderful. This kind of thing takes something wonderful, and treats it as if it’s flawed, and I can’t appreciate that.

I don’t disagree with what you define as the definition of riffing and the spirit of MST3K and Rifftrax. However, I do think its a huge mistake to treat films you like as sacred cows. Dark Knight is truly a great movie, but like most any film, there ARE flaws.
Also, one can’t forget that people have different tastes. There were people who hated Dark Knight. I’m one of the handful of people who really liked I Am Legend.

I’m one of only a few people who hated Pulp Fiction, so I understand…but HATE Dark Knight? I just can’t imagine that anyone would outright hate Dark Knight.
On topic, I’m not really that into riffing on this movie, so I’ll stay away from this one.

Every one of their comments about how bad Christian Bale’s Batman voice is, is perfectly valid…
He did sound like the cookie monster.

“Flame away Rifftrax fans. I know you want to.”
Nah, I’m inclined to prefer the riffing of lower-quality stuff, as well. The pathos of having to sit through something terrible adds a lot of flavor to this whole movie-mockery experience. It makes it feel *shared* rather than simply commercial.
On the other hand, I do agree that pretty much anything has potential for riffing. It’s harder to do well for higher-quality material, but it can be done, and in some cases a movie proves to be great both in itself and for parody purposes. Star Wars (especially the original trilogy) is a prime example of that, but Lord of the Rings is another one that can stand the send-ups without either the films or the satire looking trite. And there are others, as well, so in principle I’m open to treatments of the higher-quality stuff.
The marketing aspect of Riffing a title like this one is undeniable, of course, and I do wish they’d mix in some more terrible stuff – but mainly more goofy-terrible stuff, rather than crass-overproduced-inanity-terrible stuff. But it would have to be one helluva film for me to suggest that it is truly *above* riffing, personal tastes aside.

@Cronkite: I wasn’t trying to get into a shouting match. I agree that those films are also crappy; I’m just saying that there’s a lot more untapped material out there.

Rifftrax would be the only way to make that watchable for me.

Just watched the Rifftrax Shorts DVD last night (my first Rifftrax purchase). What a great disk!! I love Mike, Kevin & Bill and loved hearing their voices again since the last Film Crew release. Here’s hoping more Rifftrax DVD’s find their way to the marketplace. Love the product…just don’t care for the current delivery system.

NOW you’re all complaining about Rifftrax doing newer movies? Since when is Heath Ledger a saint and not to be mocked? Everything and anything under the sun is open to mockery. That is the true spirit of MST3K.

Ugh, I’m such a lightweight when it comes to terminology – what exactly is “DRM,” and why is it so cool that the shorts are offered “DRM-free?”
Tried to look up the info myself but ran into dead ends. As for the latest offering, I’ll fall in with the “you can/should riff anything” crowd.

It’s not “Trendtrax.” But newer movies are more profitable to sell trax for and you’d like them to stay in business, right? And as far as mocking big-time stinkers? “The Happening” and “The Day After Tomorrow” anyone?

I hated The Dark Knight, so I’m looking forward to seeing this riffed.

Man I was hoping they would do Batman Breathes before this one. It’d be an excuse to watch it again without getting bored since I’ve seen it so many times. Hopefully they will eventually do Batman Breathes later on though. :)
By the way I enjoyed both Batman films as well as Momento, which was a funny Rifftrax. I’m a life-long Batman fan and Mistie so it they better bring it with the writing.
Saying there is “NO reason to make fun of this movie” is kind of odd to me. :( Fun IS the reason!

I liked “Batman Begins” but won’t jump at getting “The Dark Knight” due to the facts of too much senseless violence (I guess that’s the point of a terrorist), actor Heath Ledger died stupidly during filming, and there wasn’t a redeeming thing to come out the movie.
I applaud RT for hitting on the bandwagon and I hope this gig will allow them to start going after the older bad movies usually found in the $3 bin. Of course with iRiffs and Rifftrax presents, could it be possible that RT will delegate the crappy movie gigs to up and comers?

That guy who does the “missing stingers” for MST3K eps. without them should also string together stingers for movies featured in Cinematic Titanic and Rifftrax installments.
As much as I enjoy CT, I’m always disappointed when I don’t get a stinger after the credits.
As for Rifftrax, surely even blockbuster Hollywood fare has its share of stinger-worthy moments.

Just wanted to say I understand completely why fans of TDK don’t want this. I wouldn’t watch the LotR Rt myself. But I’m not a huge fan of superhero spectacles (got bored by BB…loved Spiderman1, less love for S2, have S3 on my shelf to watch). Of course, once I actually see the movie I might like it enough to have the same kind of disgust for the RT. .

#26: I’m not one to nitpick, really… but he died while filming a DIFFERENT movie. He was long done filming TDK when he died.
That aside and on to a “non-directed-toward-#26” comment, I personally enjoy seeing what they can do to riff big epic films like LOTR or TDK. It’s like sort of a challenge… like “Here, try THIS on for size!” I just like seeing how they pull it off sometimes.
Me, I love the movie, but I will also love to see it riffed. Also, I miss them doing full-on stinkers too. Variety, people!!!
Do the 2003 Hulk film soon please… THEN maybe tackle the newer one.

“Ugh, I’m such a lightweight when it comes to terminology – what exactly is “DRM,” and why is it so cool that the shorts are offered “DRM-free?””
It means DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Basically, when you buy a song or movie online, it usually has some for of DRM that limits what you can do with it. Maybe you can put it on an MP3 player but you can’t burn it to a disc, or you can watch it on your computer, but not make a DVD of it.
DRM-Free stuff doesn’t have those restrictions. So you can buy one of these movies and burn a DVD or watch it on your iPod without having to jump through a bunch of technical hoops.

BuckDat, Batman Breathes?
Basically all the ‘Oh no, not a New/Good film!’ comments are completely expected, but run counter to what people actually prefer buying. And I think they would rather stay in business than just solely cater to the vocal minority.

They wouldn’t put the effort in to write their own Batman and Robin track, but they can do this? If they were a bit more good-natured about their jokes like the CT guys it might be okay, but the Rifftrax group has a tendency to be nasty about their flicks (much like the later MST episodes), and it makes it hard to listen to them rib a genuinely good movie.

Thank you, majorjoe23! (#30!)
I haven’t seen the 2003 Hulk but I just watched the newer, Marvel-approved version, and I think Mr. Norton is clamoring for some riffs to be made about him.

Yes. Did “The Batman” not take his first breath in the film? That’s why I applaud Christopher Nolan on the title of Batman Breathes. :)
Makes sense to ME, BathTub. What’s YOUR deal? ;)

“That’s why I applaud Christopher Nolan on the title of Batman Breathes.”
But the title of the movie was “Batman Begins”, not “Batman Breathes” … which is where the confusion apparently lies.
I applaud Nolan for the title “The Dark Fight” … because there was definitely fighting in the dark in that movie.

You know, i must say that I have given Rifftrax a many, many tries by now and nothing they have done has blown me away. Even Jurassic Park with Weird Al was disappointing, and Weird Al rarly fails to make me laugh. I yet to see the shorts yet but…i’m kind of done looking forward to rifftrax.

Professor, to date my only Rifftrax purchase has been the “Shorts” DVD recently released, And so far it’s my favorite Post-MST3K release. It really captures the flavor of the MST3K shorts, and had me rolling. As I’m electronically and technologically challenged the usual Rifftrax delivery method leaves me out in the cold, but the “Shorts” DVD was pitch perfect and hilarious. Can’t wait for the next volume. Love the Rifftrax product, just not a fan of the delivery method.

 I don’t think The Dark Knight is the type of movie to be riffed on,even though RT riffs on every new movie out there! So,how about Atonement?? Or The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?? Or Catwoman?? If RT has already these, then I apologize…As far as Cinematic Titanic not having “stingers” like MST3K did at the end of the show,I think it would only work for MST3K and not CT.Why? Because,if they did, wouldn’t some fans say they’re copying off of or trying to be like the old show??? I do love the shorts dvd by RT though and feel like they should do more of them.I think they should do some sex education ones..that would be interesting!!!

“Because,if they did, wouldn’t some fans say they’re copying off of or trying to be like the old show???”
Hell, most of us want the old show to still be in production.
More or less. I personally at least wanted another two seasons, and I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t mind seeing everybody get back together in the old format – even if only for a single project.
The point remains: we love MST3k.

If the Rifftrax Shorts DVD has “Down and Out” on it, then I would recommend it. I’ve watched it three times now and could not get through it without stopping it due to painful laughter. Equal parts from the riffing and the short itself so it shows that what is riffed makes a huge difference. The last I had laughed that hard on a Rifftrax I think was The Star Wars Holiday Special. :)
In the defense of the bigger titles though, I’ve had a lot of fun with Many of them. Especially in bigger groups of people.

Add my vote to those who don’t have a problem with RiffTrax doing big-name films, but certainly wishing they’d do more BAD big-name films.

Personally, I don’t mind RT riffing good movies because there is a chance I will have them in my video library. Fortunately I have a teenager with questionable tastes, so I have access to lesser quality movies. I think RiffTrax is a bargain at 3 or 4 bucks, but I don’t want to shell out $18 for a bad new release. While I did not think The Dark Night was a bad movie, It’s not one I want to own. I would like to see them go through one of the DVD compilations that I own that I bought cheap for the one decent movie.

I’d prefer it if a movie like this weren’t riffed. However, this RiffTrax will be complete failure if they don’t mention how much Gotham City looks like Chicago.
Also, unless a CD compilation comes out from RiffTrax, I’m never going to be hearing this. I have a few RiffTrax, but they just take too long to download.

I’m watching the movie now and will do the rifftrax tomorrow. I like this movie and still have no problems about it being riffed. Fact is I would be bothered if they didn’t riff it.

Bring it on.
I thought the movie was pretty good, but in NO way would I ever object to riffing it. “Not a movie that needs to be riffed?” It’s a serious movie about a guy dressed as a bat who fights a clown.
Just because you love it, doesn’t mean it “shouldn’t” be riffed.
And why not riff it? It makes sense. There’s a TON of material to play with (The presence of Anthony Michael Hall, the fact that Ledger had sex with Maggie Gyllenhall’s brother in a previous film, and the Gotham Mayor’s eyeliner are three things that immediately spring to mind), and it’s probably going to be one of the biggest DVD sellers… oh, I don’t know…. EVER. It makes sense from a comedic standpoint and a financial one. I hope it’s good, and I hope they make a killing.

I think it’s faster to download the files than it is to wait for the MP3 Disc to ship to your house, but to each his own. Don’t worry, they already have four MP3 CD compilations on the site. One of them is a Superheroes disc with Batman and Robin on it. I’m sure it won’t be long before a second Superheroes disc shows up on the site with Dark Knight as one of the titles.
