I was watching “Hercules vs the Moon Men” and Kevin/Tom, imitating Hercules, says “My thighs are really rubbing together today” and makes some apposite thigh-rubbing noises.
And I thought: How about readers vote for best in-theater sound effect?
Here are the rules for everyone to immediately totally ignore: Entries are limited to a sound effect performed in the theater by Joel/Mike or the bots.
My pick: The sound of Leonard Driscoll cleaning his filthy glasses in “Riding with Death.”
What’s yours?
In “It Conquered the World”, whenever Peter Graves is riding his bicycle, Joel and the bots to the background notes from the Miss Gulch bike riding clips in “Wizard of Oz”. Always cracks me up!

In “Werewolf/Warwulf” when the non-psychopath Yuri opens a bottle of champagne, it makes a very odd BOOP kind of noise. A few seconds later, Mike makes the same noise. My favorite moment from that episode.

I always loved the “squeaky squeaky squeaky” sound they would make when a woman would walk by in extremely tight pants:laugh:. I know they did this in numerous episodes, but the one I really remember is when they did it at the live show in 1992 — “World Without End.”

In “Space Mutiny” when Servo does the clown music when they start the Enforcer chase scene.

Not sure if this counts, but how about when
Joel imitates a phone operator when someone uses the phone?

No contest on this one. During a (surprise!) very boring scene in The Starfighters, where Bob Dornan is out on his double date, sitting in the front seat of his car with his special lady friend. The camera cuts to a close in shot of the couple up front while he drones on, leaving the couple in back off screen. Shortly thereafter, Trace (as Crow) begins making an extended riff wherein he simulates the sound of bouncing car springs. Between the sheer length of the bit, the complicated rhythm change-ups, the implied naughtiness, and Mike’s amused but exasperated reaction, this one never fails to crack me up.

Monster A-Go Go: near the end when the guys are in their suits, Crow (or someone else) make it sound like he “cut one” followed by Crow saying, “Uh, Oh, get the helmet off, GET IT OFF ME!!!” It was random at the time, I thought, and I still laugh when I see it.
Hercules Against The Moon Men: When Herc stands still in one scene, Joel says “Herc, you’ve got hat hair”, then hits him on the chest, which then sounds like he hit a gym mat or something.
Revenge Of The Creature: Always liked the sound of a muffled diver after his fight with the creature, to the point where they open the faceplate and the muffles turn into crying by Mike.
Tormented: The seeing-eye dog sits still making an “idleing” sound.

My favorite is the “squeaky” sound effect they make as the slutty girl in Hobgoblins gyrates her hips when she sees her boyfriend.
I also love the parts in the Hercules movies where Herc is riding around on a horse in his little skirt. The “Ow, ow, ow” sounds they make while he’s bouncing in the saddle always make me laugh.

The cult hyperventilating up the hill in Final Sacrifice.
All noises that accompany the movements of a dyspeptic Joe Don Baker.
Crow does a great thunk/twang for a knife narrowly missing a character in a movie, but I can’t remember the episode.

In The Sword and the Dragon, The groan of someone being hit by Little Falcoln’s arrow as they show the montage of him growing up.
“Whoosh!”
“Thunk!”
“Owwitchh!!”

@Rex Dart (#8) — Even better is when Hercules is riding with Iole, and (I believe it’s) Tom adds a falsetto “Ow, ow ow” in syncopation.

How about the little “arrow hitting its target” sound during the thermometer scene in “The Creeping Terror”? It even sounds painful. Poor baby.

I like the squeaky sound when that bitchy girl in Boggy Creek II is putting her shorts on.
Then someone says “Hey everyone I managed to cram my ass in these shorts.”

The vocal stylings of Johnny Mathis for the burglar in Mitchell.

First thing that came to mind was the Mike and the bots making loud chewing noises as the cast ate Johnny Longbone’s stew in Track of the Moon Beast. Second was the added dialogue after the nurse rushes offscreen to get the doctors in the Amazing Colossal Man. “Give me a minute and I’ll be right there!”

When Servo does his fart noises in “Gamera Vs. Zigra”.
“How rude!”

In ‘Overdrawn at the Memory Bank’, there’s a scene where the Fat Man make an extended monologue about the futility of Fingal’s actions, and the guys fill it with every eating, belching, and farting sound imaginable. The sheer length and cumulative effect never fails to reduce me to tears.

Kevin’s homage to Mel Blanc as Jack Benny’s car from The Giant Gila Monster (and others).

This is probably my favorite kind of riff. My first two choices were already taken (Hobgoblins and Riding With Death), so I’ll add the guys’ quacking at the intermittent appearances of the duck painting.

In “Teenagers from Outer Space” when they do noises of someone locked in the trunk of the car.

My favorite is from Tormented. The girl’s mother is going on and on about the wedding gifts and the couple sneak out of the room. Soon we hear the sounds of bedsprings coming from the next room where they have apparently started their honeymoon a bit early.

In Skydivers there is a scene where a car is driving on a bumpy road and Crow does an imitation of wheels skidding that always cracks me up!
Another great bit is when they add some sexual tension to a scene and usually Tom does some heavy panting, like in Cave Dwellers when the Father hugs his daughter goodbye, then says ‘Later…Later…’
In Laserblast when the fat cop gets in the police car Tom does an imitation of the car horn going off because of his belly hitting it.

From ‘First Spaceship To Venus’ when the astronaut is dying among those danging wires and Joel and the bots keep making the busy phone signal and “If you’d like to make a call” operator noises. I always found that both funny and miserable. Imagine dying and thats the last thing you hear.

The spine-cracking sound effect that they have made in more than one ep, most notably “Pod People”.

So, would you say we have more than “BOOOOIIIIIING!!!!”?

Devil Fish: Over the tape noises of the devil fish, the effects of multiple beer cans being open and gulped. “glog, glug, glug, glug, glug, cha.”

Servo making a loud fart noise while Joe Don Baker’s Mitchell sits on his bed.
What makes it really funny is Crow turning his head away from the screen in disgust until he releases that it’s Servo making the noise.

Maybe this doesn’t count, but in “Red Zone Cuba,” there’s this shot of a dog being led over a wire barrier. Right before Tom cries, “Ow, my area,” I could have sworn he murmured “Snausages” (dog treat). I backed that part up a few times, I can tell ya.
Also still love “The Dead Talk Back” when the cop is at the desk, very briefly covers his mouth with his hand, and Tom makes little sobbing noises.
“Rocket Attack U.S.A.” when Joel, in his phone voice, tells her husband that she can’t go out with her friend because “Helen’s my imaginary friend, you know that.”

I also loved it when the bots made the sound of delicate instruments getting crushed underneath Joe’s feet in This Island Earth.

In “Agent From H.A.R.M.” Mike and/or the ‘bots make bee buzzing sounds whenever the secretary with the huge ’60s beehive hairdo is onscreen. Silly, but it cracks me up every time. I laugh just thinking about it.

In the “Are You Ready For Marriage?” short, it zooms in for a closeup of the girls face, and everyone starts giving her a Vietnam flashback. “Marines, we are leaving!”
Never fails to crack me up.

During one scene in “The Incredible Melting Man”, the music suddenly turns into a bizarre assortment of “suspenseful” noises like “doinnnng” and “ch-ch-ch”, and Mike and the bots make their own goofy contributions: “Shluuoink!” “Wangle-wangle-wangle” “Zzz-z-z-z!” and so on. Makes me laugh like an idiot every time. :)

I know it’s low brow, but I can’t help but laugh whenever Joel/Mike and the bots add belching/flatulence/bloated groans whenever someone’s eating on screen (or alternatively, if someone obese is on screen).
See: The MST3K Academy Awards Preview Special, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, and probably others I’m forgetting.

Lots of good ones already mentioned, but my favorite is in Parts: The Clonus Horror. There is a moment where the clone is shot by a sniper while escaping the facility. Clone somehow gets up and continues. From there until clone meets up with Keenan Wynn, Mike and the ‘bots repeatedly make gunfire noises followed with a “Ow!”
*pshew* “Ow!” *pshew* “Ow!” *pshew* “Owwww!”

I can’t pick one favorite, but I always laugh when the ‘lush’ woman at the beginning of Merlin’s Shop makes the “Ahhhhhhhh” sound while the Ouija piece is being moved, then Mike follows it up with his funnier version.

I second that Little Falcon arrow scene in TSatD.
Another favorite is the squeaking duck sounds in I Accuse My Parents, especially the timing that makes it sound like the door is squeaking at the same time.

“Honk Honk! Way to go Steeeeeve!” with realistic horn honking and Doppler effect on “Steeeeeve”!

The Bots love to make squeaking sounds to imply friction in theater segments. In “Eegah” one of the Bots lets out a loud “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!” when Roxy slides down the swimming pool slide. Also, in “Hobgoblins” Servo makes some funny squeaks when Daphne “shakes” as she sees Nick pull up in his van. They also like to poke fun at slow moving windshield wipers like in “MST3K: The Movie”.

Two spring to mind: for some reason, (in Cave Dwellers) I enjoy the very accurate sound of a scroll being pushed into a tube when Boring Old Guy is talking to his daughter. thththththththththwoop!
In Body Care & Grooming, when the diagram of skin is shown and the sweat glands start to secrete, and the juice slowly makes its way to the top, followed by a satisfied sigh… shshshsssssssshshshsssssssshshshwip-Aaaaaaaaah.

The only one I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned yet,
The deep bellow Rawwr sound that Tom makes in Merlin’s Shop when Merlin’s wife moves while talking with the small boy.

I great sequence of sound effect is in Firemaidens From Outer Space when the secretary is walking to the scientist’s desk and they do the squeek of the doors opening, and even ask some squeeks of the chair as she moves it, then the doors squeeking as she leaves.

PT at #34 said the first one I thought of from parts. I love that one.
For my own pick, I have to go with Kevin imitating our favorite spring sprite, Coily, from A Case of Spring Fever.

I think this is from The Sword and the Dragon when our hero stabs a monster and Joel says “Ginish!” as the sword goes in. And then one of the bots just looks at Joel and says “Ginish??” I loved Joel’s randomness.

I think it was Servo who made the engine noises every time the giant spider showed up to terrorize the townsfolk in The Giant Spider Invasion, given it was a Volkswagen under all that black felt.
