Robot Holocaust was my very first MST3K episode…and you never forget your first. :heart:
I’ve bought every set anyway, because I’m a completist when it comes to MST3K. Any episode released, I want/own. But if I was on the fence, the whole Commando Cody series would make it an easy decision. Especially because that stupid film broke, and I wanna know how the whole thing ends!!! :)

#6: The whole “Commando Cody” series is available (unriffed, unfortunately) now at Internet Archive. You can find out how it ends, but you’ll have to supply “Nipple Nipple, Tweak Tweak” yourself. But of course you’ll want the bonus disc anyway.
Curious Nerdy Question: If the DVD is being marketed under the title “Operation Kid Brother,” are they going to keep the original title card in the film itself, or will they have to make some kind of digital change to the episode? Or does that sort of thing matter in these rights issues? Just curious. IIRC, there’s no actual mention of James Bond or any of the Bond-universe characters anywhere in the film.
This may be a good place for this and I could use any and all help about this. I ordered set #24 from AMAZON with the latest CT DVDS – RATTLERS AND WAR OF THE INSECTS. I was all keyed up that I would have them today 9/6/12 and I did get them today when I got home. I’m also keyed up because my wife and I have tomorrow off for the long weekend because I had to work on Monday so this will be our long weekend. I’ve never had any problems ordering from Amazon or Shout Factory but this set that I received from Amazon had the posters tucked inside each movie and the posters were all bent up and folded. So I was very disappointed. I’ve yet to hear back from the person that sent them, but I, as I’m sure many of you are, am a big fan of the show and I’ve tried to keep all the extras, including posters in best shape as possible. I hoped someday I would add all the posters to a folder or ring binder of all MST stuff I’ve collected over the years. To see the posters damaged, really upsets me and I hope they can remedy this problem soon. Should I have been disappointed — would you have been?

Shout has said the title change will appear only on the box, and disc art. No changes to the actual episode have been made, it’ll still say “Operation Double 007.”
The posters don’t come folded, that’s just plain weird. Was it 2nd Hand?

Radar Men From the Moon is a 12-chapter serial, so that 9-episode DVD won’t have the ending. It’s too bad they (well, apparently) won’t edit the rest of ep. 9 in, un-riffed (with or without the Shadowrama, whatever) and then continue on to the end.
Or just have them as separate chapters. Though… I *think* the DVD release(s?) of Radar Men is (are?) a multi-disc set- I don’t think all 12 chapters would fit on one DVD.
Anyway, I just figured I’d bring that up. Having all the MST’d eps lined up like that sounds nice, but A) it’s hard to watch more than a couple installments at a time, and B) one would have to supply the last few eps separately anyway.
One more thing– it’s too bad the unriffed movies aren’t included, as they were (well, sometimes) in times of yore. Not a big deal in Commando Cody’s case, since Radar Men is easily obtainable, but it would be nice for other movies.
Like Robot Holocaust, if you take my meaning.

Secondly – I agree with #12 about #10 – I’ve always purchased sets new from SF! and have never had the posters crammed into the cases. However, I don’t care about them so I’d be happy to sell them for (holds pinky to mouth)…One MILLION dollars!

I’ve bought all my Shout! sets either from US Amazon or at whichever local music/video store happens to be carrying them. I’ve never had a problem with the posters–and, like you, I keep mine separate and well preserved (in part cause I disassemble the boxes and store my DVDs in the order they were first shown. No, I don’t have a life). I would have been horrified to find mangled posters. I haven’t gotten Vol. XXIV yet, but I hope I don’t encounter your problem when I do. My sympathies to you–it doesn’t affect the movies at all, but it still sucks to get a damaged set.

A number of months back I wrote them with the idea to make a compilation of the Mistied episodes of Commando Cody on one DVD, possibly as a filler for a future 4-pack. Maybe it’s my ego, but I think they liked my idea. :yes:

#12 and #17 Thanks for getting back to me about my MST VOL.24. The posters didn’t get folded, but each one was in with each movie, but they are too big to fit inside, so they got all bent up and one was dog eared folded. What I’m thinking is in the past people have said they got sets and was missing 1 or some of the posters. So maybe they put them in each one to make sure they ship with each set, I don’t know, I will say with set
#18 I did get all the posters and an extra BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS. ( Right now someone’s reading this and saying “Oh so that’s the %^*#@$& that got my poster!” )

Don’t say you don’t have a life because of your way of keeping the movies. I think that’s a cool idea, I wanted to put stickers with the episode number on the bottom of each disc case so I’d know from what season it was from. I would love to get the same size case for each of my RHINO DVDS so they would display better. And let me tell you, I got real mad when I lent one of my RHINO sets to a friend and when I got it back one of the discs fell out when I opened the set because the plastic thing that holds the disc in place was broken and now I have it taped in place and every time I want to watch that movie I get mad, GRRRRRR! I also don’t like to lend out my sets, so if each movie was in its own case like the SHOUT discs it would be cool. Sorry my posts are so long I think it’s why people don’t read them. I chicken pick and I don’t even text message it would take me forever, so when I get going I tend to ramble on. Off to Maine for a long weekend with my wife, if I type anymore the weekend will be over.

Robot Holocaust is must see MST3K, there are so many call-backs to it in later episodes both with “you are doomed” references and with “they had to get to the power station” references extending into many later seasons of the show. Can’t wait to get that one, it’s soooooo funny and I haven’t watched my recording of it in years. Really looking forward to a commercial DVD release of that and OK Connery (Operation Double 007).
To those people lamenting not having the last parts of Radar Men From The Moon, you’re not missing much. We bought that serial years ago largely because it was done on MST3K and I can tell you that if you’ve ever seen Purple Menace From Mars, they basically have the same ending because Republic used the same footage to save money! But seriously, that serial and many others are available at a relatively low price if you really want to see the whole thing. A 2-disc DVD of Radar Men From The Moon costs about $10.
While the Life Afters featured are good, I’m a bit concerned
by how Gypsy’s ConGypsCo megasuccessful entrepreneurship

Funny thing about ROBOT HOLOCAUST, it’s director Tim Kincaid has since gone on to direct many, many gay porn films. Never seen one, I just found that funny.

When they did the Valeria callback in “Rocketship X-M”, I remember it was the moment the fans felt like they’d become the Fans. The show could recognize its own cult gags, and that there were enough Right People out there watching regularly enough to Get Them. They could do that with a local KTMA show where local fans called in, but on struggling national cable back when nobody watched it?
Since Robocaust was my first episode too, always felt like it had that special culty edge to it. (And not just because it was recent and in color.)
As for the little proto-Mike Shoot-the-Messenger-fest of the “Sean vs. Neil” sketch, you can sense some onscreen embarrassment for the guys, and the humor starts coming out of just how MANY longer and longer legal disclaimers they can stick on the blame-anybody gags without just flat-out being sued.

Is there any chance you ordered it through the amazon marketplace and not direct from amazon? I’ve heard about some really high quality knock-off sets, especially among Shout’s releases, selling on ebay and they might’ve made their way to the amazon marketplace.
Oddly no mention that it includes legendary actor/director Clint Eastwood’s FIRST movie appearance (Revenge of the Creature).

As far as I know, Clint doesn’t look back at his early days very fondly (hey, what group does THAT remind us of?). And, he’s spoken about how Universal execs were very rude and condescending to their bit part actors, so I don’t think he’d have much to say about his debut performance.

I fell victim to a knock off sold by a reseller on amazon advertised as new. An easy way to tell was on the outer case the silhouette of crow was solid (instead of having holes or whatever…it’s not solid anyway). Also the inner case seemed cheaper and not as transparent. Also the disks were mislabeled (incorrect movie title, two disks were switched).
I wish there was a link for the shout factory store.
My only gripe is the fact that this is the 25th set, and SF is going with the generic roman numerals, come on. I was expecting something special (a la the 20th anniversay box)…Sigh.
I too hated the Rhino packaging, not the boxes, but DVD holders. The discs were so tight that you risked breaking them when taking them out. When I purchased Vol. 2, the “Pod People” disc was already cracked aroung the inner ring, and when I took it out, unplayable. And of course once you’ve opened something you can’t return it to Amazon. So, double-pruchase (Pod People is one of my all-time favorite experiments)…Double-sigh.
Now I keep all my DVDs in Case-Logic binders. Once I’ve extracted them from any packaging I no longer have that worry.
Also notable (to me at least): Revenge of the Creature features Bill Corbett’s first appearance as Crow! I remember feeling apprehensive after hearing of Trace’s departure, but as soon as I heard Crow say, “Can we chip in and buy this guy an ass?” I thought, Oh, everything’s OK – this new guy’s gonna do just fine. :-)
I have volume 2 and one or two other Rhino sets and I know of the fragile plastic holders. You need to grip the edge of your DVD with your middle finger and gently press the teeth of the center holder with your thumb and flex the disk to remove the DVD and avoid cracking the center holder.

Well thanks #29 I feel I have a new friend here. We had a great time in Maine. The place we stayed at had a huge outdoor pool and it was beautiful Friday and Saturday. It was 81 on Friday and we had the whole pool to ourselves all day. Frosty PUMPKINHEADS by SHIPYARD and Sam ADAMS and no-one in the the pool. I also did my TRACE ” Hey Mom look, look, are you watching? ” every time I jumped in the pool. One note about the PUMPKINHEAD BY SHIPYARD if you drink beer and want to try a real cool way to enjoy this beer. Rim the glass with caramel and cinnamon sugar, freeze the glass and then add the PUMPKINHEAD. You’ll be rocking and rolling NEW ENGLAND STYLE my friend.
Also I’ve called a number about my Vol.24 set twice since Friday and have yet to hear back from them. The paper inside my shipment said “If for any reason-any reason you feel I did not deliver a 5 star buying experience all I ask is please give me a chance to fix.” Has anyone out there gotten the Vol.24 with bent folded posters? Do you find the posters inside the DVD cases? Are the doing them this way at SHOUT? Should I give this guy a chance?
Usually I get mine on Amazon, but I might just have to pre-order through Shout to get that bonus disc. I recently watched all of the Cody serial, even the last three that they didn’t do.
Glad to know I’m not the only one who stores the dvd’s in a case logic case. Complete with empty spots filled with sticky notes for future editions. 8-)
