  1. Too easy. See how many you can get without reading the questions.

I didn’t do as well as I should have. But I did notice Gaos was mispelled, unless that’s the proper Japanese way of spelling.

I got 15 of 20. I do have a LITTLE bit of a life! Phew!

@jbagels: The misspelling of Gaos cost me a point.

Bah! Another site that hasn’t figured out the mobile thing entirely-I got the first question and then a screen telling me congrats but with no option to go on to #2. Almost as frustrating as IGN. My crappy phone is my only regular outlet to the internet, but might try this again at the library or something.

Dammit, rushed it and blew two. And one was the Uncle Scrotor reference! I KNOW that one! “Give Uncle Scrotor a hug” is one of my favorites!! (The other was regarding Trumpy’s favorite snack. I plead ignorance and promise to finally watch Pod People.)

Got a perfect score, so I have no life.

Quibbles (since I write test questions for a living, I get to have quibbles):

Technically, the guys didn’t riff Gamera vs. Gyaos. They riffed Gamera vs. Gaos.

Trumpy’s favorite food is potatoes ONLY IF you’re listening to Crow. In the movie, he drinks quite a bit of milk (I’ve always found that scene especially repulsive, for oddly inexplicable, though probably Freudian, reasons) and vaccuums up peanuts. But no taters.

Got 16-20. I haven’t seen several of them, and #20 was
a total guess. I only got the sodium one because of the
Mike and the bots song (the sort of music the kids today seem to like).

Got 18. Haven’t seen Track of the Moon Beast in a long time, and I’ve never seen It Lives By Night. Frown.

I got 16 but I definitely got lucky on a couple. I swear I’m a big fan of the show! It’s just that the bar is set so high.

Spoiler alert! Alright, so it’s a little too far down to save you.

I only missed the last one, but it is not really about a monster per se. I couldn’t answer that question for any movie that I’ve ever watched.

  11. 17 for me. I haven’t seen the three I got wrong (I blame my kids). I also thought the Trumpy question was a bit of a trick Q, since Trumpy didn’t actually eat any of the three options. Also, was killer Trumpy really an adult? I thought it was a hatchling like his more pacifist brother, non-murderous Trumpy.

Time to just relax. It’s just a quiz.

Fools! They claim the season three(and zero) Gamera episodes were in season four. I award myself an additional point for a total of 21 out of 20!

  13. Tom Carberry says:

I got a perfect score, but I don’t remember Trumpy liking potatoes–I thought it was peanuts, but that wasn’t on the list, so I went with something that started with a “P”.

I got a 15. A few trick questions and some episodes I’m just not as familiar with.

  16. I remember Trace or Kevin intoning something about potatoes in a John Merrick-type voice (as Trumpy). That’s why I remembered. But it wasn’t a very good question, since Trumpy ate peanuts more than anything.

  17. fish eye no miko says:

Yeah, the Trumpy one was based on what Crow was saying, not what we actually see on the screen. At least they didn’t list both potatoes and peanuts as possible answers. If they had, and I would have answered “peanuts” and got it wrong, I would probably have stopped taking the quiz.

    Oh, I got 20/20.

Ouch. 15 out of 20. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Squirm, and I thought It Lives by Night was kind of dumb even for MST.

I did get the Gamera question since I’ve seen the “Gyaos” spelling before and I seem to remember that Jiger is Zigra. CT should really do the new Gamera films – they’re a lot better but just as goofy.

I got 18 out of 20 so not bad. I missed the Jack Frost question but I don’t watch that one very much and I just fluffed it on the last one.

    20 out of 20!
    That was really kinda fun!
(OK, I admit – I totally guessed on the last one)

  22. Blast Hardcheese says:

Blew the last question, but otherwise got them all. OK, guessed on a few (couldn”t remember if Boggy Creek was Arkansas or Louisiana). The Trumpy question was unfair, even though I guessed what they were looking for. And if Jiger is Zigra, then that question should be thrown out, too.

I know–it’s just a quiz; I should really just relax. But hey, there might have been money or beer riding on this!

  23. Kathy says:

Boy, Trace parodying Ernest Thesiger from “The Old Dark House” really made an impression on the quiz writer! Trumpy never went near a potato.

That question almost cost me a perfect score! I almost said “Kittens” because Trumpy does seem interested in Tommy’s cat for a moment. And then I remembered Trace’s riff…..

Missed one. Damn old hag in Jack Frost. I didn’t even know she had a name, so I guessed…poorly.

  25. John M Hanna says:

The answer to question 7 says the Hobgoblins came out of a Hollywood film vault. But in the movie they did originally come out of a spaceship. I challenge this quiz’s validity.

  26. Operation Weasel-Snitch says:

Sorry to double-post. But, in case anyone wonders (and I know you don’t). Zigra is also known as Jigura, the dusty swordfish thing. Jiger aka Jaiga is the makeshift triceratops from an earlier movie. So, there is some similarity in names there which probably adds to the confusion from Gaos, Gyaos, and Gyaosu being the same crappy monster.

  27. GizmonicTemp says:

19 / 20 Woo hoo! I missed “Uncle Scrotor” because (insert long and pointless excuse here).
I only knew who Baba Yaga was because I was so fascinated with the “Kalevala” from “Day the Earth Froze” that I looked up some “Jack Frost” lore. I didn’t really like that question because it required knowledge of something outside of MST3K and the target movie. (What? There’s something other that MST3K?)

  28. fish eye no miko says:

27: Yeah, the old witch in Jack Frost is never called Baba Yaga in the dub we see in MST. She’s called “hunchback fairy” which… what?

  29. GizmonicTemp says:

John M Hanna #25 – They came to earth in a spaceship, but the old dude kept them “safe” in the vault.

15 out of 20 for me, mostly because there were several I haven’t seen ever. I got a few lucky guesses, mostly from remembering the ACEG entries for the movies rather than actually having seen them. As others have said, the Jack Frost question was dumb. I’m not mad at them though, cause it caused me to go to the 10 myths about videogames story that entertained me (even though, like this MST quiz, I question some of their “myths”).

  31. fish eye no miko:

Yeah, I guess they never mentioned her name. That probably should have been a bonus question. I recognized her because of her walking house. That’s part of the mythology. Also that she flies around in a magic morter and pestle, though she doesn’t do that in Jack Frost. The pig sled figures into it somehow, too, as I recall.

I think maybe they say something about her in the dvd intro?

    #31 Castle Monster:

“I think maybe they say something about her in the dvd intro?”

I just checked… Nope. I mean, Kevin talks about her, but he doesn’t refer to her as Baba Yaga.
But, yeah, I know of Baba Yaga from folk tales I’ve heard about in cultural classes I’ve taken and things like that.

  34. Kali says:

Still don’t know why they referred to her as “the hunchback fairy” in the soundtrack. The house with its chicken legs made it pretty obvious – even the Brains laughed at this one. They must have known.

I mean, it’s hard to believe Baba Yaga is not public domain.

  35. This Guy says:

@34: It’s all part of the half-assed cultural sanding-and-varnishing common to older dubs. We mustn’t confuse American audiences by teaching them anything about other cultures, after all! This has continued into the present with the broadcast of children’s animated shows that are TOTALLY NOT FROM JAPAN WE SWEAR, SEE THEY EAT DONUTS AND NOT ONIGIRI.

    Dang! Missed two!

The NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST question….I haven’t seen that one that many times, and not for a long long time, sooooooooo……

    &

The IT LIVES BY NIGHT question about the makeup effects……argh! I knew that one, I’m a horror guy, but I was thrown off by the inclusion of Rick Baker’s name as an option. He did three MST3k movies, if I recall correctly.

CAN YOU NAME ALL 3 ???

  38. Warren says:

19/20. It Conquered The World apparently wasn’t that memorable and I’ve only seen it once. I knew it wasn’t ninja throwing stars so I had two possible answers and 50/50 chance of getting it right.

10 out of 20. Might as well hand in my Satellite News membership card.

To be fair, I rushed and mis-read some of the questions, I probably would have gotten at least 15.

  42. Crow T. Robert says:

I screwed up the one about Jack Frost’s hag, but it was the only one I got wrong. But here I’d like to submit that Trumpy’s favorite food was not potatoes, but rather anything the kid put in front of his trunk (milk, Cheerios). While he never eats any of the small animals in the kid’s collection, Crow makes it seem like Trumpy is slathering over a buffet of what he misunderstands as potatoes.

Ever notice how a joke stops being funny when you have to explain it?

  43. Of no account says:

Missed the last one. Instantly jumped on Rick Baker (that didn’t sound right..). I was just guessing, since I really don’t pay attention to things like that in movies. I got lucky on the Jack Frost question, since I’m unfamiliar with russian folklore.
    Other than that, a breeze!
Oh, and in Japanese it’s ‘Gyaosu’, so ‘Gyaos’ is the correct spelling. They removed the ‘y’ in the english version (maybe others?) to make it easier for english-speaking people to pronounce.

  44. noordledoordle says:

Things always get a little weird when you romanize Japanese, but “Gyaos” is correct – it didn’t turn to “Gaos” until Sandy Frank did his dub, IIRC.

EDIT: I guess someone else pointed it out, oops.

18/20. I missed the Uncle Scrotor one (I somehow had it in my mind that “Uncle Scrotor” was a general-purpose riff) and the It Lives By Night SFX guy one (I never paid attention to crew to that degree). Ah, well.
