We’ve had our tickets for the D.C. show for weeks. It will be our 5th CT Live show after seeing them in Minneapolis in 2008, Philly twice in 2009, and then in D.C. the last time. Movie sign!

I’ve never been to a live show before and I will be going next month and I have a question. Do they always sign stuff after the show and should I bring a pen with me? I don’t know if they will let me carry it in,but I have a MST3K movie poster that is mostly black so I would need a silver or gold pen or marker.

Wish the show I went to was ‘audience choice’.

If I can scrape together the money I will try to catch ASTRAL FACTOR in Schenectady, very curious to see what they do with that stinkburger!

Re #3: As far as I know, they always do the signings after the show. When we saw them they had their own black and silver markers (but we brought our own too, which was good when we caught Gruber outside the theater and had him sign some stuff)

Definitely going to see Astral Factor in Schenectady. Just three days after my berfday. Anybody know for sure it’s the “Astral Factor” listed on IMDb from 1976? It’s meets the profile for perfect riffing stinkburger.

@ Ator: I’d bring the colored Sharpie of your choice, just in case. Always be prepared. Also be prepared to wait in a long, long line.

I assume it’s that The Astral Factor, given that that one was on my friend’s “50 ‘Classic’ Horror Movies” set that is mostly (all?) public domain titles. It’s it’s a typo and they mean The Alien Factor, well, that’s probably my favorite CT title, so so be it.

I’m campaigning for them to come to Las Vegas. Thanks are in order, because without them, I wouldn’t have survived 6th grade math. Every time she started yelling, I’ld imagine the theater seats, with JM&TB riffing away. I owe my sanity to their robot friends. ;)

@Sharktopus, I checked that myself and it is the 1976 movie. You can find the trailer for
    it on YouTube.

Also, I and some of my friends will be going to the 2/4 Schenectady, NY show too.
I live near Geneva, NY so it’s a 3-3 1/2 hour drive. One friend and I
already purchased our tickets, we can’t wait!

Maybe we’ll get to run into each other.

Laura @16, they’ve done approximately eight hundred and nine shows in New Jersey and Philly, including three on the list above. The fact that you’re not willing to drive an hour and a half to see them, or take public transportation, still isn’t going to win you any sympathy from people in, say, Colorado. But go ahead and boycott — the only person you’re depriving of anything is yourself.

@16 Laura..Have you thought of asking your friends to contact the venue in Atlantic City and request CT,so that way the venue will know there is a demand for them?? I think it’ll have to take more than one person to get them to perform there..Also,how can you go,if you have no job? Isn’t that the real problem??

    @ Gary,

I wish I could get my friends to help me out. The problem is, they don’t know MST3K so they won’t know Cinematic Titanic. And there is no guarantee that they will enjoy it either. I just wish I could trust my car enough to make to the 90+ (one way) trip. And I wish those stupid casinos would respond every time I email them about CT. I even include a link to the site so they don’t have to Google search. I guess they don’t want people to come there anymore.

Also, I am still collecting Unemployment. The most I would be able to do is pay for myself.

Got my tickets for the Durham show. I wonder why they did Audience Choice for that one in particular. I hope it’ll be something not on the DVDs, since I’d like to see something new!

  26. Gary Bowden says:

@24 Laura..If your friends don’t know MST3K or Cinematic Titanic, then it’s up to you to tell them and show them and maybe(if they have good taste)they’ll become fans.I’m sure you could get your family to contact the venue, just to help you out.Not that they have to go to the show,of course. If you’re still collecting Unemployment, then don’t boycott Cinematic Titanic because they only perform where there is a demand for them.I live in Arkansas(as I’ve said many times before)and I know they’ll never come here, but that’s not going to stop me from buying their dvd’s.I mean, what’s the point, first of all? Second,CT doesn’t choose NOT to perform somewhere,do they? No,they don’t.A year ago I suggested that you should concentrate in finding a job first and getting your car fixed, than worry about seeing CT..Believe me,they’ve performed closer to you a lot more than they’ve performed closer to me.I had to drive to Dallas, which is a 5 hour drive because I knew that would be the closest they would ever come and it would be a while before they would come there again(if they did at all). Don’t give up hope and keep trying and try and get as much people as you can to contact the venue. There’s strength in numbers,as the old saying goes.If you do that, then hopefully the casino will get wise and book them..Good luck!!

@28…And have you contacted a theater there and told them about CT??

  30. Luke Forrester says:

    #29 of course.

At this point the only explanation is that CT is not comfortable going anywhere new (maybe the last few times they went somewhere new the ticket sales were down), and only want to continue visiting the same areas of the country they’ve been to for the last 4 years.

  31. Cheapskate Crow says:

@27: Isn’t Santa Barbara in southern California? I will be there but unfortunately three weeks after that show.

  32. jere7my says:

Luke, CT doesn’t make the decisions about where they perform. They can only go where they’re booked. Your aggrieved “only explanation” is flatly wrong — it’s more accurate to say that Colorado theaters don’t think there’s enough of an audience to justify booking them. The only way to change that is to convince a theater that their assumption is wrong.

  33. jere7my says:

And saying “CT is not comfortable going anywhere new” doesn’t explain why they’re hitting the Carolinas, which (AFAIK) they haven’t played before. And have they previously been to NV?

  34. Gary Bowden says:

@30..I think that makes sense, was that ticket sales were down,so why should they play somewhere if they don’t sell hardly any tickets? How are they going to make their money back? Why would they want to perform in a half empty venue?

  35. Luke Forrester says:

Well I’ve done my part, if they don’t want to come anywhere near Denver then the boycott continues, not that it’s very hard given how rarely they release disks anymore. And if it’s the venues in Colorado’s fault, then man, CT should get their agent on that and come to Colorado, our venues are making them look bad apparently.

  36. Gary Bowden says:

@35..You’re making it sound like CT aren’t coming to Colorado on purpose and sounding a lot like Laura, since both of you are boycotting..I’d like for them to come to Arkansas or Tulsa for that matter(only 2 hours away),but will they sell the venue out? How many people will come? What if it doesn’t sell out and how much money will they lose? They don’t put out disks like Rifftrax because like it says at the beginning of their dvd’s: “It is written, performed, produced and financed by us..” How many disks do you think Rifftrax would put out if it was produced and financed by Mike,Kevin and Bill? Probably not very many..Like I told Laura, have more than just you call the venue so that way they’ll know there’s a demand for them. The venue might think,”I don’t know if we should book Cinematic Titanic because only person has called”.

Can’t wait for March! Squeee!! And Durham is now audience choice, didn’t really mind Rattlers, but would like to see a new one. Let’s go vote people!

And to all those sad that it hasn’t come to their area. I thought they’d never come near me. I live in Southwest VA and its quite a distance to Durham, NC. Think it will be worth it!

  38. jere7my says:

Luke @35, how could you possibly know whether or not they want to go to Denver, if it’s not up to them what cities they play? Your ignorance of the way booking works in no way reflects badly on the CT crew.

Maybe if you hold your breath and turn blue they’ll play in your living room — that’ll have exactly as much effect as your boycott. (Actually, if you really believe they choose what cities to play, your boycott will have a negative effect. Do you think they’d be more or less likely to play a city they sell a lot of DVDs to?) Personally, I think it’s awesome that they release DVDs of live performances, for the millions of people who can’t get to a live show. I can’t figure out the reasoning here: “I can’t see them live, so I’m going to deny myself the pleasure of seeing them on DVD! That’ll show ’em!”

Sheesh. There is no entitlement like fannish entitlement.

  39. Laura says:

I am going to say for the last time: If an act that I enjoy comes to Atlantic City, they get my money. If they don’t, then I don’t spend anything on them. That’s my stance and I am not changing it for anyone. I really don’t care if I ever see a live DVD. Until there is a live show I can personally attend, that riffing group gets nothing.

  40. jere7my says:

Laura: Wow! You’ve never bought a book by an author whose book tour didn’t come to Atlantic City? Never bought an album by a band who didn’t play Atlantic City?

That seems like a fine and sensible rule.

  41. Luke Forrester says:

Well the really nice thing about Rifftrax is they do fathom events. They don’t have to worry about pissing off their fans, because everyone gets to go to the live shows. I’d be happy if CT did that.

As for CT, at this point I don’t care who does the booking. It’s been four years. They have their routine, they’re sticking with it. CT started somewhere, and I bet at first they sought out venues in addition to being asked. I’ve done all I can on my end can and apparently the official CT response to Denver is “not our problem”. Still love the CT guys, but it’s pretty unreasonable that a big city like Denver hasn’t had a show anywhere near them.

And also comparing the complaints of Denver fans, who haven’t had a show within 500 miles to some lazy fan who won’t drive 90 minutes like Laura is not really fair.

  42. jere7my says:

Luke, my point is that you don’t know how they feel about Denver. For all you know, they’ve been dying to play Denver, they’ve had their booking agent calling Denver every weekend, but they can’t find a venue that will book them. You don’t know, and it’s unreasonable to pin the blame on them without knowing the details. They certainly don’t “have their routine” that they stick to, because they keep adding new cities. Yes, they return to cities that did well for them, but they also go to new cities like North Carolina and South Carolina and Reno. If you organize the local MST3K fans, you may be able to convince a venue in Denver to book them.

I do have more sympathy for you than for Laura, though.

  43. Gary Bowden says:

@39..Why are you so worried about seeing CT when you’re on unemployment anyway? If you get enough back, then maybe you could get whatever you need to get your car fixed,so it can make it to one of the shows. @41..The nice thing about Rifftrax doing fanthom events is that they’re not using their own money, are they? Don’t they work for Legend Films? How can CT do that, since the money comes out of their own pocket? CT is NOT intentionally pissing off their fans just because they’re not performing where their fans are at.Give me a break! Think of all the rock bands or artists who don’t play every little town their fans live and some fan out there doesn’t buy one of their cd’s.Most fans drive where they’re playing at,if they have the money and the time..Plus,driving 90 miles to go see CT isn’t very far,but how about if the fan is on unemployment and doesn’t trust her car?? Why should she complain about them for the situation she’s in?? I drove to Dallas from where I live(I know,I know,I said it already),which is a 5 hour drive.Sometimes if you really want to go see someone or do something, you have to meet them halfway or make certain sacrifices.
