The title on THE BRUTE MAN documentary in the press release is incorrect. The title is “TRAIL OF THE CREEPER: MAKING THE BRUTE MAN”. The details are listed below:
“TRAIL OF THE CREEPER: MAKING THE BRUTE MAN”- An all-new documentary exploring the making of THE BRUTE MAN, and how its story parallels the tragic life of its star, RONDO HATTON. Featuring EXCLUSIVE interviews with film historian/screenwriter C. Courtney Joyner, film documentarian Ted Newsom, cult film historian Bob Burns, Universal monster film historian Tom Weaver, cult filmmaker Larry Blamire, and director/Hatton historian Fred Olen Ray. Directed and produced by Daniel Griffith. A Ballyhoo Motion Pictures presentation.

“is europe region 1 or 2? and will i be able to play them here. ”
Most of Europe is region 2. Assuming you’re in Europe, these won’t play there. Unless you get a region free player, which are often very cheap. Google should be able to help with that.

Resisting the urge to pre-order is very much like Captain Kirk resisting those damn hippie spores and stuff. I’ve used the dogface boy comment on myself and that helped…
gotta pack in some other stuff to keep free shipping. But by God, this thing is nearly preordered!

I usually order immediately, but I am interested in seeing what Shout! Factory will be doing when they start selling it directly. They’ve been pretty competitive and offered some cool exclusive extras recently. I ordered Volume XX from Shout! and got the stress ball. Amazon pricing was too good on the Gamera set to pass up as it dropped as low as $36.99 for the collector set, but I might wait just a little bit to see what Shout! does before buying from Amazon this time.
“This item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping” (from Amazon)
Amazon free shipping starts at $25, since this set is currently at $41.99 free shipping should be no problem. I’ve never had to bundle anything with a 4-disc MST3K set to get Amazon free shipping, they are always more than $25 when first released no matter how deeply discounted.

I’m excited by the inclusion of the August Ragone commentary. I found his bit on Gamera vs. Gaos to be very entertaining and informative. I was going to pre-order it anyway (I mean, come on, look at that episode list) this just made me feel less guilty about it.

Wow, they caught Dolores Fuller just in time (she died May 9, 2011).

@ # 21: It’s not a new interview with Dolores Fuller, it’s an “archive interview”, an existing interview that they felt was relevant and made a good extra feature rather than a new one done specifically for this DVD set.

Cool, set. i hope we can get some sci fi era episodes next year, though.

August is the man when it comes Japanese pop culture..among other things..
Too bad we cant combine the movies – The Brute Man meets Time of the Apes where Rondo goes after the kid who keeps screaming I dont care I dont care while Dolores Fuller is holding up the old man, who is just so high from smoking dope in Mighty Jack
Anyway Volume 23 – Im guessing Fugitive Alien might be on it – both 1 and 2 – throw in 2 Mike public domain eps like Horror of Party Beach and Track of the MoonBeast youve got quite a set :D
I dont need therapy this time

I wonder where they found these archive interviews.

Wasn’t “This is MST3k” the one narrated by Penn Gillette?
*shudder*
[Painful flashback to those massively annoying voice-overs at the end of every show…especially the one where he went on and on about how they were responding to all of the complaint letters about stopping the annoying voice-overs]
Gotta hand it to Shout! – they’ve figured out how to do what no one thought possible. Sandy Frank agreeing to letting them use his movies. Comedy Central allowing this special going onto DVD.
They finally did find everyone’s price or they know where to get the REALLY embarrassing photos…

I want a reunion roundtable with Mike, Mary Jo and the vocal Sci Fi/somewhat anti-MST3k Guy, all moderated by Rodger Lodge of course…

The “Making of MST3K” is the one that aired before the Sci-Fi premiere, not the Comedy Central one. I remember Mike explaining that there’d be a lot of apes in the forthcoming season, and everyone thought he was making a non-sequitur joke.

THE DVD MENUS OF MST3K????
Odd choice for an extra – is this a making of featurette or something?

I can’t wait until this set comes out. However, I’ll pass on pre-ordering anything from Amazon ever again. The last few times I’ve done that, I’ve ended up having to wait nearly two weeks after the release dates to actually get my stuff. So, I’ll wait for Shout Factory’s pre-order offer this time and get it from them.

Really happy to see The Making of MST3K included – it sets a precedent for more specials. In a future set they need to include the MST3K Home Game behind the scenes stuff that was also broadcast even earlier in the Scifi days. Lot of fun stuff of Mike and Kevin goofing around BBI.

@ #27: Shout! did not purchase the rights from Sandy Frank, they were purchased from another rights holder.

I’m suprised they cleared the Making of MST3K. I always assumed that was made and owned by Sci-fi. I just hope this doesn’t mean This Is MST3k Is coming to dvd. God the last thing we need is young Misties being re-introduced to the voice that is Penn Jillette. They didn’t used any of those clips in the 20th anniversary documentary so I think we’re safe. I would love to see the Home game behind the scenes stuff.
I hope that MST3k DVd menues is some kind of making of special and not just a montage of the menues that we already have on dvd.

This set is going to give me a case of the reds! I can’t wait, especially for Violent Years and Brute Man, two personal favorites…

The DVD Menus of MST3K?? WOW?? That just seems so….?? Next thing ya know, they’ll be thrown in copies of the Comedy Central and Sci-Fi era contracts the size of the posters …. wait a minute, that seems so…COOL!!!

I am perplexed by “THE DVD MENUS OF MST3K” special. Fairly strange addition.

All the extras look very interesting. I hope the addition of the MAKING OF MST3K (1997) special on Vol. 22 will open the door for the other Sci-Fi era specials as extras. I believe there are the two SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS, the LITTLE GOLD STATUE PREVIEW, the ROBOT CHOICE AWARDS, and THE HOME GAME interviews/behind the scenes. These specials all run between 16 and 22 minutes. The perfect length for a DVD extra. I still have them on tape but would love nice new DVD copies.
Come to think about it there is still a lot of “extra worthy” material from the SCRAPBOOK and LAST DANCE: RAW! tapes. I hope we get to see some of this stuff in future SHOUT! Factory MST3K releases.

I’m in the UK with a region free DVD player and never had any problem with imported DVDs. I know of at least one Film Crew title (Hollywood After Dark) which is region 0 and will play any where in the world.
Is there such a thing as region free Blu Ray? And would a European Blu Ray player be a region free DVD player?
Sorry to hijack the forum. As the only MSK3K I ever get to see is on officially released DVD I’m excited by ANY release. These SAndy Frank things sound great.

@ The GR #46 If you wanted access to more MST3000 you could always check out dapcentral.org They have almost every MST episode that hasn’t been released officially (and they rightly remove episodes once they get an official DVD). Amongst MST fandom I think it’s been accepted that it’s okay to download or otherwise acquire fan made copies of episodes that are unavailable officially as long as you purchase the official releases when/if they eventually come out. There are still many episodes that aren’t likely to see any official DVD release due to stubborn movie rights holders who either ask for too much money, or just won’t give MST the rights again out of spite (such as with Sandy Frank, though Shout seems to be mastering the art of the “work around” in his case, which seems to only be possible because his movies were mostly Japanese imports that are actually owned by other people) and places like DAP are likely the only way they will be available. I’d start with Daddy-O which is one of my favorites and not likely to see the light of day anytime soon on an official DVD.

If Mr. Frank (as in Sandy…mr. Sandy Frank Sir) could see his way clear to release the unMST3K version of Time of apes I’d sure buy it. In fact, anybody who put out the full TV series on that I would buy it in a heartbeat. I’d preorder it…

I’m assuming the “DVD Menus of…” feature shows the process of how Shout! scripts the segments, figures out which sound bytes to use, and then animates the characters. I would give that a watch, but I hope it didn’t bump some other special feature.
Count me in among those surprised that “Making of” got cleared. I don’t know how it works with specials, but I would have thought merely the overt use of “Riding with Death” would have required some extra-special hoop-jumping.
I’m not interested in seeing the movie portions of “The Home Game,” but I would love to see all the Best Brains segments edited together as a special feature one day. I was reviewing those a while ago and was amused that Mike and Kevin were using the “Down, down…” line long before many had seen “The Mole People,” so clearly the episode had recently been taped and was still on their brain.
But what can I say, I’m a completist. I’m still bummed the KTMA host segments weren’t included as extras on the Gamera set.
