MALIBU, Calif.—Stan Winston, the Oscar-winning special-effects artist perhaps best remembered for creating the terrifyingly realistic dinosaurs of “Jurassic Park” died here June 15 after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma. A retrospective of Pierce’s work is taking place at the –where else?– Arkansas Film Festival going on this weekend, which includes a screening of “The Legend of Boggy Creek” Sunday night. Thanks to Al for alerting us… The Center for Media and Democracy has begun a project looking at the so-called “mental hygiene” films of the ’50s that the show used in many shorts, and they quite rightly mention the show that repopularized them. Thanks to Emily for the heads up!
