RIP Herb Reed of The Platters

BOSTON–Herb Reed, the last surviving original member of 1950s vocal group the Platters, died June 4 at a hospice following a period of declining health that included chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Barely on topic: Richard Dawson, briefly imitated by Crow in a host segment in episode 502- HERCULES, has died. He was 79. The L.A. Times has a story here. By the way, of the seven celebrities Crow impersonated in that sketch, only Betty White and Fannie Flagg are still with us.

Dick Beals, RIP

Voice actor Dick Beals, perhaps best remembered as the voice of the Speedy Alka-Seltzer, died May 29 at a southern California nursing home, he was 85. We’re just about certain he provided the voice of Gumby in the short “Robot Rumpus,” featured in episode 912- THE SCREAMING SKULL.

HIDDEN HILLS, Calif–Joel Goldsmith, the son of famed Hollywood composer Jerry Goldsmith and perhaps best known as a musical composer for the “Stargate” franchise, died at his home here after a long battle with cancer.
