RIP John Madden

Pleasanton, Calif. — John Madden, the Hall of Fame NFL-coach-turned-broadcaster whose exuberant calls combined with simple explanations provided a weekly soundtrack to NFL games for three decades, died at his home here on Dec. 28. He was 85.

Harrowgate, England–British dramatist Ian Curteis died at a hospital here Nov. 24. He was 86.
