List: The MST3K Prince riff listby "Wilford" Bryan "Wolf" ChaneyBryan writes: Minnesota has produced several famous things; two of them being Mystery Science Theater and Prince, aka The Artist. So it's only natural that the two would wind up together. So, here's a list of Prince references I've found so far. The list is incomplete. If you know of any more, email me. Editor's note: Bryan demonstrated an extensive knowledge of Prince's career by including, in his original list, explanations of what, specifically, each riff was referring to. In the spirit of MST3K, where riffs are almost never explained (and for the sake of brevity) we've eliminated them from this list. If you want more info on what these riffs are about, feel free to contact him. Also: Bryan included a number of riffs that were references to performers who had some connection to Prince, such as Sheila E. and Sinead O'Connor. We saw this as an example of what we at Satellite News call "list creep," in which the focus of a particular list gets a bit too fuzzy. When Tom Servo says "Nothing compares 2 U," that's a Sinead O'Connor reference, plain and simple. The fact that Prince wrote the song is interesting, but that fact does not make it a Prince reference. Unless Prince himself is specifically referenced, we did not include the riff.
