Rayford Barnes

SANTA MONICA, CA--Rayford K. Barnes, a veteran character actor remembered for recurring roles on such TV series as "Laramie" and "Gunsmoke," died here Nov. 11, 2000. MSTies will remember him in a small role as Detective Tyzack, who drops Mitchell off at his stakeout early in the movie in episode 512- MITCHELL. He was 80.

Born October 23, 1920, near Whitesboro, TX, Barnes began his career in New York training with Stella Adler and the Neighborhood Playhouse, later moved to San Francisco to open his own theater. Barnes then came to Los Angeles, where he began his onscreen career acting in 1953's "Hondo" with John Wayne. Barnes' other feature film credits include "Shenandoah" (1965), "The Wild Bunch" (1969) and "Cahill: United States Marshal" (1973).

He also made many TV series from "The Virginian" and "Little House on the Prairie" to "Walker, Texas Ranger" and "ER."
