For the first time since 1999, Mike Nelson, Tom Servo and
Crow T. Robot made a new appearance on television, riffing the March
14th episode of ESPN
Classic's Cheap Seats with Randy and Jason Sklar. While the
MST3K crew made only three brief appearances, in shadowrama, the
episode was widely mentioned in the mainstream press, including such newspapers as The New
York Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer. It even made the
spotlight of Entertainment Weekly's daily "must watch"
list, which stated:
10-10:30PM
Cheap Seats (ESPN Classic) Good snark is hard to come by, so all hail
the second-season return of the brothers Sklar for ESPN's mocking homage
to B-level sports. Riffing on clips from a creative-breaking competition
(martial artists smashing boards in innovative ways!), the siblings zing
one-liners on everything from The Karate Kid to pirate couture. Better
yet is a cameo from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 crew, who bust on
Seats, noting, "A cable show where you make fun of other people's
[clips]. It'll never last." B -Paul Katz
In case you missed it, the episode will most likely be repeated many times by the
network, probably during the weekly Cheap Seats marathon
shown every Saturday night/Sunday morning. Check ESPN Classic's
schedule page for more information. You can also
watch a clip from the episode here. Look for the episode titled "Creative
Breaking Championships/K-1 Fighting."
