Wow that looks like a blast….maybe they will film it. I hope.

Maybe they will have some puppets in front making fun of the puppets on stage. Now that would be surreal.

Steelhawk, that’s exactly what I was thinking. Someone needs to films this and then projected it in front of puppets of Joel and the bots. That would be awesome. Still this looks pretty cool on it’s own. I wonder if the Torgo puppet has enormous legs!

“Manos, the Hands of Felt” will be at Seattle’s Odd Duck Studio on 10th Ave. the first half of April.

I love that the felt Master’s robe has only 8 fingers. Nice touch.

Wow, adds a whole new layer of meaning to the Hands of Fate thing. Also a new layer of creepiness.

Between this and the stage play put on in Oregon, something weird is going on up North! I have the play on DVD, and actually enjoyed it.
BTW, you’ll never guess what the people who did the Manos play are putting on now!

Wow. I live in Portland and right now I am running scenarios in my head of how I will convince my girlfriend that this is a worthwhile reason to drive to Seattle. It just looks. . . neat.
@10 Gorn Captain: That theater is 6 blocks from my house. Even though Wild World of Batwoman is terrible, I am intrigued.

Aw damn, you’re right! (Accursed tiny laptop screen!) I hope they have a DVD for sale of the play like they did for Manos.

As a Seattle-ite and staunch defender of the actual movie, I was one of about 20 to go see it last night. It was a lot of fun.
It’s not a straight adaptation. I guess the closest comparison is that Freddy movie New Nightmare. Hal Warren and cast are traveling through El Paso filming “Lodge of Sins” and stumble upon The Master’s Lodge and Torgo. Most of the scenes and dialogue in the movie are faithfully recreated, including one I believe is cut out of the MST3K version, with various embellishments. Even technical glitches in the film are recreated. The dialogue also references different trivia about the making of the movie. The attention to detail was impressive. The three songs from the movies (anybody have official titles for those?) are interspersed throughout as musical numbers. The one singer really hit that high note in the first song. It’s a shame there weren’t more songs in that movie to use. The Master puppet is even better in person. I just like the way the eyes pop out. And I also really enjoyed the puppets of the couple that makes out the entire movie. I thought the way their hands run through each other’s hair was clever.
So a metafilm puppet show musical based on “MANOS” with delicious red velvet cake served afterwards. It was totally worth pulling the battery out of my pager to go see.

If they can bring this to the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, I’m there.

Thanks for sharing Derek, sounds really fun. Hopefully they will throw up a video on You Tube or something so us non-Seattle area folks can see a little bit of it!

Packed house (~50 people) for the 9 Apr show. Pretty much agree with Derek. Loved the “painting” of the Master and his dog used in the show!

Hiya. This is the Manos – The Hands of Felt playwright.
Many many thanks to Sampo for posting this and Derek and Steve for coming to the show!
For the nonSeattleistes, know that we filmed last night’s performance and also have plans to do a cleaner filmed version later, but it’s going to take some time before any of that is available. The live run has to be first priority for now.
Thank you all so much for your interest. The show is doing crazy well; sold out this weekend. “Whatablast!”

I saw this last night at a packed house and it was awesome. I don’t know if they plan on selling off any puppets/props from the show after its run, but I for one would pay good money for some of the items (especially Torgo and/or his 4-fingered staff). One nice touch is the clips of the real film at the beginning and near the end, and the uses of film in the background to play scenes that couldn’t be done live easily (e.g. the “peeping Torgo” scene).
