Cool. I watched “Hobgoblins” not that long ago and did not recognize Daran Norris at all. Nice to see how well he thinks of the experience.

If it weren’t for MST3K, Hobgoblins wouldn’t have a theme song.

So, I suppose the inevitable question is…how long do we have to wait until the Rifftrax for Hobgoblins II comes out?

Wow just wow. We must all lobby to make sure there is a rifftrax for this. I would buy the dvd just to see that.

Was the Hobgoblins 3 comment a joke, or is there actually a chance the original cast will, in fact, do this?
I enjoyed it overall, but the highlight for me was seeing Mr. Daran Norris included. For a fan of voice actors, it’s a treat for me to see such a wonderful talent like him acknowledge his humble beginnings with such fondness.
While Hobgoblins doesn’t quite have that weird, special, down-home “let’s make a movie” feel that other wonderfully awful films like “Manos, The Hands of Fate” have, it’s somehow very refreshing to see the cast reunited and in such good spirits about being a part of that bizarre, sleazy mess that was Rick Sloane’s opus.
It’s also fitting that Rick Sloane has remained consistent in his inconsistency; the plot takes place after the events of the first film, yet all of the main cast-members are meeting the old man for the first time…what the?
Not to mention the fact that he’s just blatantly re-shooting scenes from the first film (making it more of a loose remake than a sequel, perhaps?)…truly one of the great non-talents of our time.

I agree Trumpy.
It was fun to see the original cast..and maybe part 3 will be the “True” sequel to Hobgoblins. This part two just seems pathetic in that Sloane is re-shooting the parts that MST3K made fun of (don’t remember the exact quote that Sloane said, but this is close). If that was the case…wouldn’t the whole second movie be a remake?!
Not to mention that the re-filmed scenes in the video are just trying TOO hard to be funny. The first movie wasn’t supposed to be funny, but ended up being so (thanks to MST3K, and to the bad acting). Hopefully Sloane realizes this and does a part 3 with the original cast and tries to make it a real horror movie (but still very bad of course).
The original cast has also aged well.

I wonder where Paige Sullivan is?? The one that played Kevin’s frigid girlfriend..

^ I was just about to ask that same question. LOL
I was on another site, and then it hit me…Amy wasn’t in the line-up with the other cast members. She was the cutie of the ladies for me.

Considering this looks to be an Evil Dead 2 style Sequel/Remake I wonder if you could just edit the Hobgoblins MST lines in and make them fit.

It kind of ruins it for me to see that the Club Scum guy seems to be a normal dude. I wanted him to still be acting wacky. I loved the Fantasia woman for just slamming the movie at every opportunity (plus she is (still?) hot).
Only 8 days and counting until the greatest sequel/shot for shot remake since Gus Van Sant’s Psycho.

“The first movie wasn’t supposed to be funny, but ended up being so”
The sad part is that it was indeed supposed to be funny.

Seeing people talk about Hobgoblins was way more entertaining than actually watching Hobgoblins. Hobgoblins is one of the most repulsive film done on MST3K and the sad attempts at humor in the movie make it hard to watch even with the MST3K treatment. Hobgoblins 2? I think I’ll pass.

I’m glad to see the original cast can look back and laugh at themselves and the movie. They realize that it was just a mess and are cool with it. I hope they do make a real sequel with the original cast members. After hearing them and seeing them again I kind of find them alright, and not repulsive. It does steam me that Amy wasn’t there I can just see her thinking she was too good to show up for a “Hobgoblins” reunion. Although I have no reason to suspect that, It would be just like her character in the movie to act that way.

Well, this clarifies one thing: the actors seem to be such normal people. The total blame for “Hobgoblins” rests on the shoulders of Rick Sloane. Truly he is one of the great writer-directors in the MST3K pantheon who can screw up a movie like few people can.

I was a big Veronica Mars fan (RIP), so knowing that Daran Norris went on to far better things made his even watchable. He was fantastic on that show — great in Cowboy Bebop as well.
Nice to see Hobgoblins 2: The New(d?) Batch (which looks worse the the first based on the few scenes) at least will have FishPicker as background music.

Oh, and if the guys over at Rifftrax decide to give Hobgoblins 2 a go, I’ll be the first in line.

Yeah, the cast DID age surprisingly well! It would be cool if that little mini-documentary ended up as a bonus feature in a future MST set. And hey, if CT did Hobgoblins 2 then we would only have to buy one thing!

Oh, a sequel to Hobgoblins? *Great*.

Good to see these folks enjoying their notoriety and have embraced the MST experience. If any of you guys are reading thanks!
Yes, what happen to Amy? I also would like to know what happened to Roadrash? He was the best actor in this movie, seemed a natural for the role. When the special effects guy first appeared I thought it might be him!?

You notice how the Aztec Mummy has become a recluse and never makes appearances, while the Robot is everywhere? Go figure.

Mike in Portland,
To answer your question… like many classic/cult movie actors who are no longer working… THE ROBOT rakes in the oil by making convention appearances. The Aztec Mummy, on the other hand, still has a career in film… see: Mil Mascaras VS. The Aztec Mummy (www.mmvsam.com). Oh, and then there’s his plunge into the adult film arena with Johnny Legend’s “Nympho Libre”… but let’s not talk about that. :)
By the way… for all of you 1960’s Kiddie Matinee fans (you know who you are… the ones with the scars), “STINKY the SKUNK” will also be making an appearance at the MONSTER BASH! Live and IN PERSON! Bring your repellent!

Mike in Portland,
To answer your question… like many classic/cult movie personalities who are no longer working in the ‘industry’, THE ROBOT rakes in the oil by working the convention circuit. The AZTEC MUMMY, on the other hand, still has a lucrative career in film…. SEE: Mil Mascaras vs. The Aztec Mummy (mmvsam.com). And lets now forget the Aztec Mummy’s plunge into the adult film industry (Johnny Legend’s Nympho Libre). Ok… maybe we should forget!
Also… for all you 1960’s Kiddie Matinee fans out there (you know who you are… the ones with the deep scars), “STINKY the SKUNK” will also be at the MONSTER BASH! Live… and IN PERSON! Be sure to bring your repellent. Hehe!
Happy that everyone is enjoying the HOBGOBLINS reunion!

That was a great reunion piece on most of the Hobgoblins cast. I could recognize every one of them, and I’ll add my vote that they’ve aged very well. They also have a great sense of humor when it comes to discussing the making of the movie, as well as its “legacy”, for lack of a better word. And I’m alittle embarrassed to admit this, but I think the woman who played Fantasia looks better today than she did 20 years ago. Between her overall appearance and her distinctive speaking voice, she’s much more attractive now.

Don’t be embarrassed Tobelerone, she is much more attractive now. I did a double take when she started talking and I realized it was her.

Matt D., if you want to at least HEAR the Club Scum guy acting wacky, watch “The Fairly Oddparents” on Nickelodeon and listen to the voices for Cosmo the FairyGodfather and Timmy’s Dad.
MLD, in reply to your comments about this sequel being pathetic…Rick Sloane? Do something pathetic? Perish the thought! Next thing you know you’ll start accusing him of being sleazy and exploitative! Where WOULD you get such an idea?

That was friggin’ delightful.
What great attitudes. Joe Don Baker could learn a thing or two from these folks!

Glad to see I was not the only one who missed Paige Sullivan, and who thought Fantasia aged very well …

Really fun! It’s great to see that the cast has such a great sense of humor about the whole thing. Kind of reminds of the self-deprecating jokes that the MST3K folks make about their own pasts (ex: Mike’s hockey-hair, cheese-factory period). It’s great when people can laugh at their youthful silliness, while still remembering it fondly.
So in short: major style points to the Hobgoblins cast!

My theory is that Tami Bakke (Fantasia) probably looked just fine 20 years ago, they just OD’d on their attempts to make her look trampy and “slutty.” It’s kind of a disturbing look into the mind of the direction.

“And, this is the actual typewriter the original Hobgoblins was written on”.
Rev up the time machine and call Servo! Just hide or destroy that typewriter and poof no Hobgoblins.
I am on the fence. I’ll read some reviews before purchasing.

Fantasia looks AWESOME!!!!
All of the cast and the director have a great sense of humor about the whole thing, and God bless them for that.
