LOS ANGELES — Actor Steve Franken, perhaps best remembered as the wealthy and snobbish Chatsworth Osborne Jr. on the early 1960s sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” died of cancer here on Aug. 24. He was 80. MSTies will recall him as Henry Maitland in the movie in episode 305- STRANDED IN SPACE.
His NYT obit is here.
Time marches forward waiting for no one. Yet another twinkling star in the constellation MST3K. RIP

Franken was brilliant as the spoiled rich boy Chatsworth Osbourne Jr. in “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.” His performance probably shaped my life-long opinion of rich folks and kept me from naming either of my sons “Chatsworth.”

RIP Steve. And does anyone know if he is related to Al?

Watched many an episode of Dobie Gillis growing up, to the point that I expect him to come out and talk to us whenever I see the “Thinker” statue in something. Oh Chatsworth…

He had many roles in Jerry Lewis films. He also had several supporting roles in Bewitched episodes, including “Cousin Henry.” It seemed like every time I turned around in an old sitcom or comedy, there he was. A prolific and funny actor. Rest in peace.

In that picture, he kinda looks like a young Nicholas Cage.
